Woah, I've never seen people go that far just to scam! Makes me wonder if they actually were successful in scamming someone, but it seems unlikely. And to think they did it for a full year! My mom was selling a bed on Facebook marketplace and she got an offer that was incredibly suspicious, I mean this woman was saying I just sent you my code now send me yours, don't hesitate just do it, don't think about it just push send. This was about her Google Pay code! So my mom just said no thank you, I know what you're doing. And the woman was insistent on her sending the code, which for this transaction there wouldn't be a need for a code the lady would've just paid in cash or PayPal lol. Very creepy

I've known scammers that go over and beyond to get their victims. Catfish scams, for example? They create a whole new character that their victims are attracted to... these scams can go on for years. Oftentimes, the victims of such scams are bled dry of their money and assets because they fall in love with the character that is being presented to them and won't understand that it's not a real person and sometimes, they become victims all over again to another catfish scammer.

That's horrific. People who would rather tear someone's life apart piece by piece instead of getting a job (or sometimes it's a "side job" for them.)

Scammers make a lot of money off of their victims. Catfish scammers are among those that make loads of money- but they aren't the only ones that do. I once got a phone call from somebody claiming that my Amazon account got hacked and that if I wanted it back, I had to pay money to get it back.

However, the most outrageous was the scammer that called me at the beginning of the pandemic. They claimed that their company had a high tech filter that would be attached to your furnace or air conditioning unit that would get rid of 'COVID-19 particles'. They made a lot of money off of desperate people who were terrified of the virus.

I never got a callback from them but that's because I humiliated the caller when they attempted to sucker me into buying the filter... which doesn't exist to begin with. They couldn't even answer the basic questions of what the virus does. When the caller realised that I have a background in science, they hurriedly ended the call.

My roommate and good friend comes from India where there's a lot of scammer cells. One day I heard her insulting somebody over the phone and bringing up their parents and what they would think if their parents found out their child grew up to be a pathetic scammer.

She makes scammers cry while I just get them to feel so embarrassed that they usually just block me. She says that if you say to someone from India that they bring shame to their parents/families- that it's usually enough to make them cry. Haven't tried it yet myself. I feel like it's too mean despite the fact that they are scamming people and aren't worth my compassion, lol.
