Elizabeth Startt Goodreads Post #7

The graphic novel I chose for my goodreads post #7 is Diary Of A Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules. This book is about a boy named Greg Huffley and his summer vacation and how his brother always interferes with his plans. The book tells the story of how Greg basically lives in Rodrick’s shadow and he is constantly being tortured by his older brother. Throughout the book, the two brothers slowly become friends and work together in certain situations. This book would be considered a graphic novel for young readers, because the author puts little comic drawings in the book as the story develops. The illustrations of the stick figures display exactly what’s happening in the book throughout the reading. The facial expressions that the author uses on the comic drawings are simple, yet still have a huge impact on the illustrations.
I used to read this whole series growing up, but this book in particular was my favorite. I can really relate to the sibling rivalry part because I have an older brother of my own, and I know what it’s like to feel in their shadow. Growing up, we used to argue a lot, like siblings do, and so I can understand Greg’s frustration throughout the book. This book makes me realize the impact siblings have on your character development and play a major role in your upbringing.
Rating: 5/5
