Cheryl (cherylllr) | 67 comments I'm confused. Why does it say Lyttle Lytton on the page, not Bulwer? And these are just bad jokes, right? Some aren't even in good grammar so the humor is hard to see through the mess. But your entry is cute, anyway.

Perhaps because his full name was: Edward George Earle Lytton Bulwer-Lytton.

The purpose of the contest is to write the WORST opening line of a novel. So, yes, the grammar is tortured and the descriptions ridiculous. And entries have taken to incorporating bad puns / jokes / satires of current events.

Well what confused me is "Lyttle Lytton" instead of Bulwer-Lytton," which is the name of the contest I know and love. Is this for YA contestants only?

Bear in mind, everyone, that no matter how wordy and convoluted his opening sentences were, the original Bulwer-Lytton (who was a friend of Charles Dickens!) was always grammatical.

Sadly I wouldn't be surprised to see more of this.
The stinky elephant in the stacks:
It's not just an outsiders versus library issue. There are board members and staff in many, possibly most, libraries who agree with restricting access and/or removing books.

Since people drank urine as Covid cure, the length of time is probably mostly dependent on how long it takes to get the ingredients to make the cure.
