(Oh. December 10th is the company Christmas party - I wouldn't be able to take part then).

Knowledge is not necessary! As GM of the evening, I will review number of players and curate accordingly!
But first, I need a date!

This is offsite, but should not require login.

Also, while we set this up, we will either be playing on Board Game Arena (free, but does require email sign up),
https://boardgamearena.com/welcome
or Jack Box (free, needs email sign up)
https://www.jackboxgames.com/
Board Game Arena has video instructions of games, if you like to watch things in advance, but we will not be selecting things that require a lot of learning! Favorites include:
Azul (pattern game)
Splendor (resource generation game, only 2 mechanics to it)
King of Tokyo (you play a kaiju stomping around Tokyo!!)
Saboteur (game for up to 10 people, some deception involved as you build a tunnel...or destroy it!)
Forbidden Island (cooperative for 4 players. You're gathering artifacts from a rapidly sinking ruin!)
Tokaido (Trying to take the best vacation through feudal Japan! The worst thing that happens is that you eat the same thing TWO WHOLE TIMES )

Awesome! What do I need to do in order to participate?
I am going to decide last minute whether or not to show up. It will depend on my workload/ stress level in the moment.
Can you repeat the prerequisites for attending?

Okay, today's the day! Unless you're on the other side of the dateline, then you're probably asleep and Sunday is the day!
For game night, please do the following:
1. Make sure you sign up at Board Game Arena : https://boardgamearena.com/welcome
2. If you'd like to participate in voice chat, please join the group Discord: https://discord.gg/VJvet62C
3. Please either send me your BGA username or send a friend request to me at AllisonHurd on BGA so that I can easily add you to games!
If you also have a premium account, please let me know that too, if you don't mind hosting one of the games, if we need to?
If we have 6-10 people, I think we'll likely play Saboteur, which would benefit from at least being able to hear everyone talk as there's some strategizing involved.
If we have fewer than 6 or more than 10, I'll do what makes most sense for that and either split into two games or play a game that's optimized for smaller groups.
It's gonna be pretty casual, I expect everyone to come in just to have a nice evening with book friends playing a game for the joy of playing, and maybe to learn a new game or two!
I plan to be on around 6:30 (i.e. half an hour before we said we'd start) to help anyone with questions about set up, making sure your Discord works and so on. Talk to you in a few hours!

And for anyone curious, I am just as bad at being deceptive in real life as I am in Saboteur!

...whelp. I suppose half asleep I wouldn't have been in much of a shape for games anyway.
While in-person events are still hard, the internet does have quite a few offerings for crowd-favorites in terms of board games like Settlers of Catan, Wingspan, Splendor and many, many others.
Are folks interested? Let's try to narrow down a date and time, and from there I can help organize different games to play! We can do something like Jack in the Box or break out into smaller groups and play more in depth games as we so choose.
I'm thinking December 10/11 or 17/18 would be the first available. That should be after Hanukkah, before Christmas and the Solstice and doesn't seem to interfere with any Muslim or Hindu holidays.
