the creature alliance - semi advanced discussion

Jael walked into the large expanse, it was strange to say the least, more like a large cave with pools of lava here and there. A long river stretched out beside them, inside you could the souls of people, it looked like they were sleeping as they flowed along with the never ending current.
"Well here we are," he stated to Mercy.
He looked around, this was his real home, sort of. Jael hadn't been on great terms with the other demons for the last, eternity of his life, or at least since his abilities started to affect the other demons. Before that he had actually been quite popular among them for his skill and strength, now he was more feared then loved and that angered him.
When she entered it felt like she was being embraced by an old friend. The sky was the same as it always was: an endless twilight. The scent of faint burning wafted up their nose, as their usually was. The river beside them would be terrifying for any average mortal, but Mercy simply found it beautiful. Seeing how peaceful they looked almost made them want to be in that state.
"Wow, it's so beautiful. Do you think they have saleswoman jobs here?" Mercy asked, totally ruining the moment. She couldn't help herself.
They knew that Jael had a rocky relationship with the rest of the demons, but that didn't change how much they enjoyed being in this place. If anyone talked shit they often just beat them up unless they were a higher level demon.
Mercy turned to retrieve the portal back seeing as it should have collapsed by now.

Everything did not go black, as it did in the storybooks Liam read as a kid, nor did it go white. Everything went red, not just generical, cheap red paint used in those horrible carnivals, but dark, deep maroon of blood.
After a few moments, Liam emerged in... well, judging by its rather showy-gothic-graveyard appearance, hell. Though he was always the person to never be scared of the lies of horror, a shiver went down his spine. For a moment, he forgot about his job. Crouching behind a pile of bones, he listened. Of course the employees were talking about getting a job down here.
Looking around, Liam saw a river of souls, dead bodies, and a few demons. They could have at least tidied up the place for guests, he mused. Though everything in his body told him to rush back to the portal, Liam stayed in hiding. He came all the way to hell, and he definitely was going to bring something back for the king. He reminded himself of all the people he could blackmail now knowing how to enter this place. What an advantage!

He looked down at them when she brought up the comment about saleswoman again, he snorted, and raised both brows,
"No," he said, and hip-checked them.
There was no need, demons had trade but not salespeople that just wasn't necessary, he was actually pretty sure they had tried it once a really long time ago. But it hadn't gone well and angry demons got annoyed and tried to eat the salespeople, not a good time, free meal though.
Jael turned to watched Mercy grab the sphere, and saw something that made him curious, the far above average 7 foot man walked over to what he saw behind a pile of bones. His blood red glowing eyes watching carefully.
Mercy rolled their eyes. It was likely Jael was just lying to her! Regardless, they remained quiet. They'd bide their time and bring it up later. Anything to win.
When they grabbed the sphere they looked around, making sure none of their stuff had fallen in through the portal. The junk at times shifted due to a breeze or Mercy's feet shuffling through. She saw Jael facing a large pile of bones and stared along with him.
"What, you hungry for bones? I heard in some areas down here they sell them as food, though I don't think they'd taste very good," Mercy said as she strolled towards the pile, examining a pretty jawbone. Too bad it was separated from the rest of itself.

Well, these weren't just any employees. Judging by their nonchalant appearance, they'd been here many times before. With a start, he realized they may be demons. So Mr. Brackley did hold up his part of the deal! he thought to himself, remembering the questionably senile man who told him there were demons hiding among the felines. Perhaps he shouldn't have ransacked his house in an effort of retaliation.
However, Liam had more pressing matters to deal with, such as the tall, imposing man(?) that was walking towards his hiding place. Racing through possible distractions, Liam dug his hand through his satchel and retrieved what looked to be an origami butterfly. Sticking it through a space in the bone pile, Liam lit the end of its fuse, sending it fluttering towards the curious employees. They stared at the unique sight as it soared higher and higher into the air. With a large >>BOOM!<<, it exploded into a fury of red, yellow, and orange. While the two were distracted by the bug, Liam sprinted to a different hiding spot, behind what seemed to be a dead tree. Catching his breath, he could only hope they didn't notice him.

The fact was that Jael and Mercy were the only ones of there kind hiding among the mortal people, only a few people had been able to report the two and only after years of intense mental therapy to fix the damage done by Jael. Being that Jael himself was more ordinary demon and in fact very high ranked and very near the top.
"Okay," "What is this?" he watched it for a moment, before realizing his clear mistake.
Once the bug exploded his temper changed, from something not to threatening to a made with a large sharp toothed grin that could rip your face off. His eyes narrowed as he looked around, and a long red tongue moved over his teeth.
"Mercy," "Let find that person and kill em" he said, not liking that he had been tricked.
They watched the bug for a second, senses not kicking in until it was too late. As soon as Jael said the word, she was dashing away to find whoever was attacking them. Oh, they'd pay.
Mercy took out her knife and held it close to them, bloodlust in her eyes.
They saw a swift movement out of the corner of their eye and turned, long black hair covering their eyes for a moment. Nothing.
"Fuck!" they screamed and stomped around the premises, certain that the culprit couldn't have gone far.
She quickly overturned several hiding places until she checked behing the tree and saw a puny human. Mercy laughed in his face, cocking their head over to Jael. "Jay! It's just some human! Looks like he wandered in our portal." Before he could make a run for it, she grabbed his wrist tightly and slammed it into the tree, then quickly rose her knee right into his balls. While he was in pain, they took the time to grab their other arm and keep them still.
"As much as I'd love to kill them, Jay, we need to figure out their purpose before we torture them," she said, not bothering to address the man.
