We live in this amazing thing called a cancel culture. I know, right? People really love getting shut down for having differing opinions.

And yet the government and the cancel culture talk a lot about tolerance.

So here's the question: are they following their own admonition and being tolerant? And here's the clincher: is it better to be tolerant, or to tell the truth?

And since this is debate, and we always define terms in debate, how do you define tolerance?

And I'm gonna let someone else have the first say for once in my moderating life...

Fortissimo (kendra_simps) Okay, yeah, I pretty much agree with Carsie. I'm fairly intolerant with today's culture myself.

Well said, Carsie!
Does anyone have any suggestions/contentions for how we can be tolerant while being intolerant, if you follow me?
Wow, that was a weird sentence...

Well to me it is more complex as to what should be censored and should there be anything censored at all? Like I will give a list and you can tell me if it should be censored or tolerated.

1.Speaking truth to power Talking about masks and corruption

2. talking about conspiracy theories. Did Russia take the election for trump did Biden steal this election through illegal means? Did trump go to Epstein island? Is the vaccine making people sterile and unable to have kids?

3. public displays of weapons. Should I show off my second amendment right by open carrying an AR-15 everywhere I go that is legal to have it? Should we say no to open carry because it makes people scared?

4. Public decency. Should people dress more modestly than they are? Should be people be allowed to walk around naked or almost naked? there has ben feminist protests where women walk around naked covered in blood to protest.

5. Should we allow public hate? Should neo-fascist groups be allowed to rally? What is the difference between a violent protest and a riot?

6.Should religion be allowed in schools and government? Should be ban all mentions of God in school or government? Should we allow schools to teach Islamic or communist curriculum?

7. public intoxication. Is it ok to be doing drugs in public? What if they are legal?

message 9: by Fortissimo (new)

Fortissimo (kendra_simps) I mean, God gives us free will, so I think people should be allowed to do unviolent things if they think it's right. We'll all be judged by our actions one day.

ok I do agree with you, but let me play devil's advocate.

If a homeless man shoots up heroin outside a kindergarten is that ok? He is not hurting anyone?

Should a person be allowed to walk around naked if they are just minding their own business?

message 11: by Fortissimo (new)

Fortissimo (kendra_simps) Hmm, good point. I guess innocence must be protected as well. And bad influence should be stopped. I guess that's why those things are illegal.

yeah I agree, though one could just as justly say that is censorship.

though personally I agree, I think innocence is something to be cherished. Once lost one can never find it again.

message 13: by Fortissimo (new)

Fortissimo (kendra_simps) Yeah, so to an extent censorship is a good thing, then.
And yes, it's very sad about that.

Yes, speak truth to power! An author wrote that quote on a book she signed for me at a writing conference. My 7th grade self didn't really think much of it and didn't even really like the quote, but I'm really liking it now!
