The lovely thing about Bingo is that the list never has to be final until you fill in the last square. Hope it is a fun year.

Lori Keeton | 1498 comments Shaina, you've got some fantastic reading for next year. I loved the planning last year but it changed all year long. Hope you enjoy the final choices!

Thank you, Sara! I agree that the list is always open to change which leads me to find books, not on my list tempting :)

Thank you, Lori! I totally agree with the list changing all year long. What surprises me is books that tempted me in Nov - Dec 2020 didn't anymore by July 2021. Hahaha

message 6: by Cynda (new)

Cynda | 5201 comments Shaina, I too will be attempting one more time The Name of the Rose. Once I get a fair read of that novel, I want to move on to other books, such as some of Umberto Eco's essays: How to Travel with a Salmon and Other Essays.

Have a successful year reading :-)

I have so many e-books that I haven't read, I hope this helps you reduce your list. Happy reading.

message 8: by Shaina (new)

Shaina | 813 comments Thank you, Matt. I'm really looking forward to all those books you mentioned.

message 9: by Shaina (new)

Shaina | 813 comments Thanks, Cynda. I too am attempting it for the second time. I tried reading it this year but I just kept getting stuck at chapter 2.

I hope we both manage to read it in 2022 and enjoy it.

message 10: by Shaina (new)

Shaina | 813 comments Thank you, Katy. I know how it feels to have so many books on your ereader and still eye other books.. lol

I seriously hope to make a dent in my collection ( even if I read only half of them )

Shaina | 813 comments Jillian, I chose that title from the top ten list (it's my favourite genre so that helps). I'm really looking forward to reading that one. Thank you and wish you luck with your 2022 reading too!

message 12: by Shaina (last edited Feb 22, 2022 08:17PM) (new)

Shaina | 813 comments As February comes to an end I have read 5 books in all in Jan and Feb and 2 books are in progress (Selected Stories by Robert Louis Stevenson and Brave New World).

Of the books I read, I loved The Mysterious Island, The Razor's Edge and Matilda. Roald Dahl and W. Somerset Maugham are new to me authors and will definitely read more of their work.

message 13: by Lori (new)

Lori Keeton | 1498 comments Matilda is fantastic as is so much of Roald Dahl’s work. 5 is a great number for a short month!

message 14: by Shaina (last edited Feb 22, 2022 08:16PM) (new)

Shaina | 813 comments Lori, I agree Matilda was great. I loved the author's wit and description of parents.

I read 5 in all for Jan and Feb. I think I will edit that statement above to include Jan :)

Shaina | 813 comments Finished Cyrano de Bergerac: An Heroic Comedy in Five Acts and loved it. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Veronique | 1154 comments Shaina wrote: "Finished Cyrano de Bergerac: An Heroic Comedy in Five Acts and loved it. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐"

It is wonderful. Read it a lifetime ago. There are many adaptations of it. I think i really liked the one with Gerard Depardieu, and am quite intrigued with the new one that has just been released...

message 17: by Terris (new)

Terris | 4388 comments Glad you enjoyed Cyrano! I read it quite awhile ago, but enjoyed it as well. Have you seen the previews of the new "Cyrano" movie that's coming out? It looks very good to me! :)

message 18: by Veronique (new)

Veronique | 1154 comments Yes, that’s the one I’m curious about.

message 19: by Shaina (new)

Shaina | 813 comments Vero and Terris, I see you are both quite excited about the adaptations. I am one of those bookworms who dislike watching movies based on books. They never do it justice. Also, I'm quite detail-oriented and keep recalling details that have been missed or added which takes away my pleasure in watching the movie.

So there, now you know why my friends and family don't watch movies with me :)

message 20: by Veronique (new)

Veronique | 1154 comments :O) oh I decorticate adaptations too, but I do allow for some variances since it is a different medium. However, they have to keep the ‘soul’ of the story for me to be happy.

Shaina | 813 comments Bingo! My first BINGO of the year B1 - O1. I loved Blindness and gave it 5 stars. I think if I had read this book prior to the pandemic I wouldn't have been able to relate to it and would most likely put it under Sci-fi. Phew!

I'm sure going to be thinking of this book in days to come. 8 books to blackout

Yay for your first Bingo, Shaina!!
I didn't love Blindness, but I was glad to read it and see what it was all about. I agree with you -- having lived through/during a pandemic has made a difference to several books I've read lately! It kind of puts us in a different mindset that we wouldn't have had only a couple of years ago!
Good luck on going for the Blackout!!! :)

Shaina | 813 comments Here is the end of my BINGO. I have one book left and I'm at 11% since over a week. The book doesn't seem to interest me but I still have 7 days so who knows?

message 37: by Carolien (new)

Carolien (carolien_s) | 894 comments Well done, Shaina! No need to torture yourself with one book left. You read so many good ones this year. I'm going to have to add Blindness to my list. Enjoy 2023!

Shaina | 813 comments Thank you, Carolien and Janelle.

Carolien, I feel you are right. I should just let it be and pick something that appeals right now. I loved Blindness. It was unexpected and so good. I still think of the book at times.

message 40: by Terris (new)

Terris | 4388 comments You read so many good ones, Shaina! Congratulate yourself! And give yourself the reward of something you actually want to read! ;)

message 41: by Shaina (new)

Shaina | 813 comments I agree with you, Terri. I've started books I want to read rather than slog through something just because I have to finish it.
