That's great, Darya, thanks! Let's see if Michaela wants to add that as well, otherwise I'm happy to read it just the two of us. I'll read it in Italian+Latin.

message 202: by Darren (new)

Darren (dazburns) | 2148 comments I have Oroonoko and Carol down to read soon, so could join in either/both of those...

message 203: by Sue (new)

Sue K H (sky_bluez) | 3694 comments There were a few of us who had talked about The Son for February. Is anyone still interested?

Lorraine | 27 comments Sue wrote: "There were a few of us who had talked about The Son for February. Is anyone still interested?"

Hi Sue. I am new to this group, so not sure how it works. But I would be interested in reading that book in February.

message 205: by Janelle (new)

Janelle | 848 comments I’m still interested Sue

message 206: by Carolien (new)

Carolien (carolien_s) | 894 comments Cynda and I am planning to read The Lais of Marie de France early in the year if you are interested to join us, Fed.

Carolien wrote: "Cynda and I am planning to read The Lais of Marie de France early in the year if you are interested to join us, Fed."

Yes, I am; thank you, Carolien! Let me know once you have a plan and/or an open thread, and I'll join you (otherwise I'll go for February). I'm free between 15Jan-31Mar.

[I wonder if one single thread for all this early French literature could work, with participants reading this or that text and contributing to the big picture. Michaela, Darya, Carolien, Cynda – what do you think? Otherwise, there'll be three smaller buddy reads.]

message 208: by [deleted user] (new)

The Mirror of Simple Souls by Marguerite Porete, the French-speaking mystic burnt at the stake for heresy in Paris in 1310.

message 209: by Michaela (last edited Nov 28, 2022 12:48PM) (new)

Michaela | 386 comments Fed - Sounds like a good idea to make a thread for early French literature, probably with spoiler tags, as not everyone will be able to read everything. Thanks for your interests Fed, Carolien, Darya and Cynda. I´d like to read the letters too. :) Will see if I can get the others too.

message 210: by Michaela (new)

Michaela | 386 comments Thanks Darren for wanting to join into Oroonoko and Carol, both having been nominated several times but never won. :) Any special time to read them? And other members interested too?

message 211: by Sue (new)

Sue K H (sky_bluez) | 3694 comments great Loraine and Janelle! It's very flexible, Loraine. You just read at your pace and post your comments as you want. I often don't start buddy reads until the 2nd part of the month and do group reads in the first half but if people start posting them I try to get going on it . Once Sara puts up the thread, it's good to make a post to say you're participating because that way you get notifications and can tell if others have started. The thread might not go up for a bit.

message 212: by Ben (new)

Ben Keisler | 53 comments I would also join a Buddy read of Oroonoko. I've voted for it several times!

Hi , Michaela ! I am interested in reading To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee if it can possibly be scheduled after December ?

message 214: by Sara, Old School Classics (new)

Sara (phantomswife) | 9416 comments Mod
I am excited to see so many interested in buddy reads for the coming year. It is a great way to organize a group read for books that somehow never garner enough votes to win the group polls.

When you have decided on a month for your read and are sure you have participants, please indicate the specific book and month to me and I will add it to the schedule and create your thread. Happy reading to all!

Kathleen | 5460 comments Two requests a few of us have discussed reading together next year. If you're interested, please chime in with the best month to read! At this point, I'm open. :-)

Parable of the Sower by Octavia E. Butler
and
Mrs. Palfrey at the Claremont by Elizabeth Taylor

Parable of the Sower and Mrs Palfrey at the Claremont.

I'm pretty open for Parable. I haven't committed to any reads yet. Whatever time frame works for others will work for me.

message 228: by Milena (new)

Milena (milenas) | 542 comments I would like to join The Parable of the Sower. Any month is good for me.

message 229: by Cynda (last edited Nov 30, 2022 10:01AM) (new)

Cynda | 5197 comments I will be reading A Theory of Semiotics by Umberto Eco. I will be starting it in the next couple of days and will read on for a month or two or however long it takes to familiarize myself with some of the concepts. I hope others will join me in reading this book. We can help each other read this book so that we each can better understand and enjoy Umberto Eco's novels and essays.

message 230: by Lori (new)

Lori Keeton | 1496 comments I also want to read Parable and Mrs Palfrey. What about jumping in with Parable in January and Mrs Palfrey in February? Just suggestions as my schedule is open as well. We can pretty much do anything.

message 231: by Carolien (last edited Nov 30, 2022 11:18AM) (new)

Carolien (carolien_s) | 894 comments I'd like to read Parable if we could do it March?

Parable and Mrs Palfrey would both qualify for New School Second Place of Worse if anybody needs ideas for the challenge.

message 232: by Cynda (new)

Cynda | 5197 comments I am good with Lori's suggestion.

message 233: by Carolien (new)

Carolien (carolien_s) | 894 comments Cynda, are you still up for The Lais of Marie de France early in the year? I'd love to get to it.

message 234: by Lori (new)

Lori Keeton | 1496 comments I’m ok with Parable in March if that’s better for the majority.

message 235: by Greg (new)

Greg | 945 comments Either way is good for me

Cynda | 5197 comments Yes Caroline thank you. When will be convenient?

message 237: by Terris (new)

message 239: by Lori (new)

I'm happy to jump in with Mrs. Palfrey in Jan or wait to Feb. What do others think?

message 240: by Carolien (new)

Carolien (carolien_s) | 894 comments Cynda wrote: "Yes Caroline thank you. When will be convenient?"

January if that will work for you? Fed is also in and available if I remember correctly.

message 241: by Cynda (last edited Nov 30, 2022 01:46PM) (new)

Cynda | 5197 comments Okay January then. . . .If you are GR friends with Fed, will you message him? In either case, perhaps he will notice our buddy read thread or perhaps we will see him somewhere on GR.

I will request buddy read thread now.

Question, as I never organised a buddy read in this group: How many people are the minimum to request a buddy read?
