Challenge Period: Jan 1 - Dec 31, 2022

For Each Month, read a book that was either:
1. added to TBR in that month (before 2022), OR
2. published in that month (any year)

GOALS for each month will be
12 books in January
11 books in February
10 books in March
...
2 books in November
1 book in December

BUT, if you don't meet your GOAL for that month, the balance will rollover onto the next month & accumulate over the year
Example:
Goal for March is 10.
Read only 7 books
Balance left 3 books being rolled over to April.

So for April, you have to read 9 (April's goal) + 3 (rollover from March) = 12 books. All 12 books should be April's tasks: added to TBR in April (before 2022) and/or published in April (any year).

If there's a balance left in April (ie. say only read 10 books), it is to be rolled over to May, again same guideline.

Notes:

If you're like me, your GR bookshelf is nearly un-manageable to browse for books added in a certain month. To make it easier, I'd recommend that you download your GR library as an excel file and use your filtering options for this.

1. Go to "My Books"
2. Under the heading "Tools", you'll find "Import and export" (scroll down to around mid-page; it's on your left hand side, underneath your shelf list)
3. Click "Export Library" -it may take some time for GR to generate this so just wait a bit
4. When your file is ready, a link will show up under "Export Library" noting "Your export from [date] - [time]". Click this link & save in desired folder when prompted.

Looking at your Excel file:
1. Go to "Data" tab and click, "Filter" (You'll see tabs in each column headers with little triangles)
2. Click on the tab for "Date Added" (Column P)
3. In the Dialog box for "Search (All)", type in the month you're looking at (do NOT use numerical values) & click OK. Your Data will be sorted to show only books added in that month for all years.

Both of us! Although the fact that each assigned month's number is decreasing, I am not going to plan too far ahead as I am sure I will have rollovers to fill the slots!

LOL, Lagullande, I'm sure you'd at least read 1 or 2 books unintentionally to fit per month ;) I think...

I'm also trying NOT to plan too much; hoping numbers of book with average out over the year :)

Well, Tien, you know how easily I get confused. I guess I just meant that even though I could read 78 books in a year, reading 12 January books in January at my current reading rate would mean that all the books that I read in January would have to fit that criteria leaving my no space for books added or published in other months. I can just see myself getting more and more rolled over. I might just keep tabs on my books separately, to see how it flows. Who knows, I might surprise myself.

I don't think I'll be able to do 12 January books, tbh... I'm aiming for 6 - hoping number of books will be averaged out monthly over the year ;)

Lyn, my plan is to read as many books as I can in January, but to hold off planning February until I see how many will need to roll over. Also, I am hoping to include a number of short books in the earlier months. January: 6 under 275 pages.

5 of my LOST22 books were added in January, and 5 were added in February. So who knows? I might be ready for FOUND on 1st March :)

The export only seems to show the year of publication, not the month. So for that, would we have to go through our TBR one by one? If so I think I will skip that and just accept that I don't have enough books for some months.

I see that if you sort by publication date on the site, not in the export, you can see the month for newer books. Most of mine are too old to have a month shown, but this does give a few extra options.

I just re-read the rules of this game and realized that the rollover books will change as the rule is "All books should be that month's task." (see example below) So it is the number remaining unread in a given month that is rolled over, not the actual books planned.

EXAMPLE (from game instruction):
So for April, you have to read 9 (April's goal) + 3 (rollover from March) = 12 books. All 12 books should be April's tasks: added to TBR in April (before 2022) and/or published in April (any year).

Challenge Period: Jan 1 - Dec 31, 2022

For Each Month, read a book that was either:
1. added to TBR in that month (before 2022), OR
2. published in that month (any year)

GOALS for each month will be
12 books in January
11 books in February
10 books in March
...
2 books in November
1 book in December

BUT, if you don't meet your GOAL for that month, the balance will rollover onto the next month & accumulate over the year
Example:
Goal for March is 10.
Read only 7 books
Balance left 3 books being rolled over to April.

So for April, you have to read 9 (April's goal) + 3 (rollover from March) = 12 books. All 12 books should be April's tasks: added to TBR in April (before 2022) and/or published in April (any year).

If there's a balance left in April (ie. say only read 10 books), it is to be rolled over to May, again same guideline.

I don't think you can do it from the export version - but you can do it when you order by date pubilshed on your shelves - it goes chronologically through the year

yep, can only sort by published year on export.

On your GR bookshelf, you can sort by date published and then I just do CTRL+F (Find) and enter in month I'm after (abbreviated as per shown on GR page) to highlight the month I'm looking for so I don't actually have to browse on page with my own eyes ;)

Thanks Dee and Tien, that's what I'll do, then! Turns out I don't even have enough books in some months if I only do date added, so I really need the publishing date!
I think I'll try and play! Hopefully a monthly challenge will work better for me - I haven't finished any of the games I chose for this year.

Can I just check, please - the books for each month have to be read entirely within that month, yes?, ie not started earlier and not finished later.

So if I started a book in January (which I added to my TBR in Jan, but was published in February, or even March), but didn't finish it until Feb or Mar, I couldn't count it as a Feb/Mar book?
