I wasn't overly thrilled with this one either, but it was interesting to read about this area.
My first book in this series was Song of the Lion which was actually written by Anne Hillerman, and is more recent. I liked it a lot more. I especially liked the part about a mediation that took place at the Grand Canyon, and the parts with Leaphorn (who at that time was retired +/or disabled). I might read another of her books if it fits a tag or an interest.

When I was first getting into audiobooks (the '90's, on cassettes!), I listened to one of these books, read by the author, Tony Hillerman. His delivery was very flat. Later I listened to one read by the granddaddy of audiobooks, George Guidall, and it was so much better.

Taken from the back of the book. "When Lt. Joe Leaphorn of the Navajo Tribal Police discovers a corpse with a mouth full of sand at a crime scene seemingly without tracks or clues, he is ready to suspect a supernatural killer. Blood on the rocks....A body on the high mesa......Leaphorn must stalk the Wolf-Witch along a chilling trail between mysticism and murder."
I struggled to get through this book. I liked the storyline and writing style but found my mind wandering off while reading parts, it was just so slow on the build-up, and then, boom, it is all over.
I don't think I am going to read the rest of the series. It is very rare for me to say this because of my love for books but this is a series I would prefer to watch, not read.
