Imjustgonnaputthishere | 6 comments The 'quote' in question is: https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/8869...

Starts at 18:21, many parts omitted.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjuET...

https://www.cbc.ca/player/play/243491...

At 21:00 a huge portion is omitted and then it carries on from 22:57. Then it carries on with more omissions and paraphrasing.

Some of the omitted portions can be seen here: https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/1107...

Then you get to the last part which isn’t even from the same interview it’s from a completely different speech.https://www.digitalhistory.uh.edu/dis...

I believe a copy of this same exact quote was already removed. https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/8869...

Hi

I've had a look at this. Unfortunately my hearing is poor, even with hearing aids. I tried listening to the You Tube clip but it was too quick for me.

Putting the first 20 lines in I got this speech which seems completely different.

The moderator of this group has recently ruled that very long passages like this are extracts (when accurate) not quotations.

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... (message #422)

Can you find me a written, authentic source for a paragraph somewhere in this extract? Otherwise I think it should be deleted.

Imjustgonnaputthishere | 6 comments I don't believe there's a written out transcript for the interview. Yes the link you posted contains a little bit on the end that has been added.

Yeah I could see it being an extract if not for the parts that have been omitted and added to it

I can't see any common points between these two. Can you please c&p here the bit in my link that is also in the quote on GR? I am going away for a few days from tomorrow, so may have to look again when I get back.

Imjustgonnaputthishere | 6 comments This part near the end:

'The white conservatives aren't friends of the Negro either, but they at least don't try to hide it. They are like wolves; they show their teeth in a snarl that keeps the Negro always aware of where he stands with them. But the white liberals are foxes, who also show their teeth to the Negro but pretend that they are smiling. The white liberals are more dangerous than the conservatives; they lure the Negro, and as the Negro runs from the growling wolf, he flees into the open jaws of the "smiling" fox.'

And then last part is just made up or I think someone tried to paraphrase something from his autobiography.

'One is the wolf, the other is a fox. No matter what, they’ll both eat you.'

From his autobiography:

'With these choices, I felt that the American black man only needed to choose which one to be eaten by, the "liberal" fox or the "conservative" wolf-because both of them would eat him.'

I've changed the quote to just this part.

Sorry this has taken so long, but I wanted this to be accurate.

Imjustgonnaputthishere | 6 comments Thank you, if you wouldn't mind deleting my quote I made here, I made a little issue with the formatting and something else.

Hi I'mjust

If you tell me what needs editing, I can do that for you.

But this is an extract, not a quote. The moderator here has recently made a ruling on those. (see Message #2 in this thread & click on the link) It would still be very long, but I can delete the first two paragraphs or the final paragraph, whichever you prefer.

Imjustgonnaputthishere | 6 comments Between the second and third paragraph I believe I put an extra space, so it ends up looking like:

I

I

I

I
---
Instead of like this:

I

I

I

I
----
Not sure if that's just how it is on Goodreads because of the picture or what not just my ocd kicks in.

Also on the fourth paragraph at: 'When the assassination in Dallas
made Johnson'

If you could hit backspace on just before the made so it's on the same sentence. Like so: 'When the assassination in Dallas made Johnson'

At the end of the fourth paragraph at 'How
would some sheriff sound'

If you could hit backspace on the would so it's on the same line like so 'How would some sheriff sound'

On the fourth paragraph again just after that at: 'It wasfor his best friend'

If you could put a space between was and for.

Also on the fourth paragraph at 'Goldwater as a l man, I respected' if you could remove that L in-between a and man so it looks like so: 'Goldwater as a man, I respected'

On the last paragraph at: 'that the black l people would'

If you could remove the L in between black and people

Done, if you can check I managed to fix all your corrections.

I think you missed where I said this passage was too long to be a quote on Goodreads. I've deleted the first two paragraphs, but have saved them in case you would rather I deleted the last paragraph.

Imjustgonnaputthishere | 6 comments No sorry for the inconvenience if that's the case you can just delete it I kinda doesn't really make sense without the context

Goodreads doesn't do that sorry, as the quotes are meant to be for everyone, not just the person who added it. But you can remove this quote from your liked quotes if you want. :)
