Kilied hated that he felt so exposed, and yet... and yet he felt like Ryenna was the person he could tell this to. For some strange reason, even though she was so innocent compared to him, she carried a weight and a wisdom with her that Kilied admired.
She seemed almost surprised by his admission. But to her credit she said nothing.
"Have you ever been a slave to darkness because if you turn to the Light, they'll take everything from you? Everything?" Kilied murmured.
As he said those words, Ryenna's eyes widened with understanding. Perhaps she'd never experienced it like Kilied, but she could clearly relate.
"I...I have been a slave to the darkness. I don't know if it's the same darkness. But I lived in it. I grew up in the slums, and there was always death and sickness. And filth. I felt that I was the same on the inside. Dead and sick and filthy. I watched a neighbor's baby die in my arms when I was eleven. I couldn't have done anything, not against wasting sickness, but it seemed like my fault, and I could see that the dark was lord over the world, and by default, me. The light seemed only for good people, people who went to the Temple and were always righteous and filled the coffers." Ryenna paused, almost like she was hoping Kilied wasn't judging her. He knew what was coming, but for some reason he couldn't write it off as he always did.
"So I lived in fear until I was thirteen. My parents always seemed different, not under shadow, and it was around that time I learned about Jyx-fu-lun. He loved me in all my filth, before I was right, but came to..." she trailed off uncertainly. Kilied raised an eyebrow. She had been about to tell him all about the bright happy joy of knowing Yahciyle, or Jyx-whoever-he-was, or some other pie in the sky Creator. Of course Yahciyle would love her. She was a literal ray of sunshine. But again, he couldn't write her words off.
"Kilied, what did you mean by, They'll take everything? Who is they?" she asked after a pause.
Kilied jerked. He lapsed into complete silence, just staring at her. If she could withstand the weight of his gaze, he might work up enough courage to say it.
And yet, maybe he couldn't.
Maybe he wouldn't be able to.
Maybe...
No.
For some reason he knew he had to tell her. He had to.
"I... Look. This is a really long story, so I'm not going into details."
Ryenna nodded slowly, like she was trying not to spook him.
Kilied sighed.
The guilt and the pain and the nausea weighed heavy in his chest, but he forced the words through gritted teeth.
"When I was 14, my best friend and I joined a resistance movement to fight the darkness. Then, he betrayed me. I... I got tangled up with a guy named Traz because of my stupidity, and then he forced me to betray my..." Kilied trailed off, tears of anger and guilt starting in his eyes.
"He forced me to betray my parents by... by saying that if I didn't he would kill my twin sister instead. So I betrayed my parents."
Kilied leaned back against the wall.
"My powers no longer work correctly because of it. A curse from Yahciyle, no doubt. But if I were to join the Light again, Traz would hunt me down, kill Kirielle and her dragon and Balorico," he motioned towards his dragon. "And then when it was all over, he'd take me to the Delandries abyss and turn me into a pawn. Not that I'm not one already."
Bitterness swirled in Kilied's chest.
How he longed to be rid of this.
But he never could be. This guilt was his just due, and if he left it behind, he would betray his parents again and be killed by the dark lord. Simple.
He couldn't let it go. Not now.

((Also Carsie I'M SO GLAD YOU LIKE KILIED'S INNER DIALOGUE!!!! He and Balorico are both so sarcastic, and then they meet my other main character, who is also super sarcastic, and the world pretty much explodes. XD))

She lay there quietly.
That arrow hurt.
She wanted to kill them all. But she couldn't do that halfway dead.
So they were getting their healer.
And they left her alone.
Good.
She slit her eyes open and glanced back and forth.
There was no one.
She breathed a sigh of relief and sat up.
She clenched her teeth around a scream of agony.
It had been her heart.
This was going to take a lot longer to recover from than she'd hoped.
She smoothed her blonde hair back and braided it.
Braiding her hair always helped distract her from pain.
She felt for the satchel she carried on her back and pulled out some of the tonic.
She drank it.
The pain intensified, and she clawed the floor, clenching her teeth hard to keep from crying out.
A small moan escaped.
Pain seared the ragged edges of the puncture wound.
She breathed in and out, clenching her fists.
Slowly it subsided, and she relaxed.
She was going to wait for them to get back and kill every last one of them. Specifically the elf. She would go first, following by the one who'd shot her.
She nodded silently and let hatred take the place of pain. This was right.

No. No. I refuse. Kilied already HAS A LOVE INTEREST GET AWAY FROM HIM YOU FIEND!!!!!!!!!! XD
((What's the average age scale here? I want my character to fit in lol))

“Yes, I do. I was just wondering where that was coming from.”

"If they hadn't wandered off, we could've been out of here by now." Jade yanks out his dagger.
((Also IDC THAT JADE IS SUPPOSED TO BE A DIFFERENT CASTLE HE WAS ORIGINALLY IN THIS ONE!!!! :D ))

"No, you didn't have it covered, you might've suffocated if I didn't step in." She put away her pistol. "I don't care if you hate MS for what I did, your welcome anyway."
