Veronica felt guilty for some reason. Like she had been caught doing something she wasn't supposed to do.

"Do you still have the-" He stopped, sensing something was wrong.
"Have the...basket of herbs? " He finished slowly.

"What?" she looked up. She had been thinking about something and had forgotten where she was. "Oh, yeah, its over here." She walked over to get it.

Jade felt his heart drop. He was angry, and frustrated, but he wanted this to work.
"I don't know. Teasing, baiting, being sarcastic...it's how you get along in the arena. If you're too nice, they think you're weak and you get picked on."

Penelope could not help listening to the conversation. She didn’t want to hurt them, but it was so hard. She decided to just sit and listen.
