loL Kate-at present I have 12 books from my library!

I'm in for the Book of Names November Buddy Read!

message 203: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12916 comments HayJay, I was just about to write to you. See where we landed with our books. Lets see what we are looking at for November and December, so we can line up another thing or too. Thrilled your are up for Book of Lost Names. And now we have Kate too! I'm going to text Sally and see where she is at. She is a teacher and at a new job, so things have been busy. But she and BooknBlues and I are still talking about Hidden Palace in November. You and Kate and anyone is welcome to join. This is what I seem to have going on in Sept, just to throw it out there.

Firekeepers Daughter, for tag and Flurries (and kind of my IRL book club sort of)

Remarkably Bright Creatures, I am 35% through on Audio, but this is tag, and its the sort of other choice for my local book club, and there is an online bookclub with the author on 9/15 that I am trying to finish by. My bookclub is sort of between these two.

My trim is Once There Were Wolves, which seems to be only 250 pages, and there is a buddy read with a few people for that, also, anyone is welcome to join. That also fits the tag.

Then there are the two Buddy Reads, the Book of Names and Hidden Palace, (both fit the tag) and that puts me up to five, four to read and one on audio, which is doable. If there is any room left, and there just may not be... I think its going to be Mr. Perfect on Paper, or Mr. Paper is perfect, the Motzah Ball author Jean Meltzer's second book, but it happens to be the pick for the Jewish Book Group, and that seems cute and easy. HayJay, you and I will have to pick out one more for December, to try to knock off together. But I love that every single one of my reads in November is a group/buddy read. That has never ever happened before. What a neat November to have!

Wasn't that earlier this year?

There definitely is a Wolf Hall buddy read thread -- and Kate might find it quite entertaining even if she's not ready to read it just yet.

@Kate - there's two factions on that book -- love or hate. It's pretty hilarious actually the discussion as those of us in the hate group defend our position and tease those loving it.

I think that was read before Circe actually, so really was my 'official' entree. It was a terrific book that I recommend all the time still and agree that we had awesome discussions here as we all read it.

message 206: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12916 comments Hate Camp for Wolf Hall. And me, the one who rarely if ever DNF's, at one point either threw in the towel, or skimmed entire chunks looking for something to catch my eye - lol.

Sally has been found, and is well and thriving. She is in for both the Hidden Palace and the Book of Lost Names.

message 207: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 15524 comments Also we should mention that buddy reads are really evergreen. I frequently read a book long after everyone else in a buddy read has finished and will post my thoughts. It's led to to more discussion and others then joining in.

Never hesitate to search through discussions to see if there was or is a buddy read.

We all LOVE discussing books!

Joy D | 10081 comments I am on the love side of Wolf Hall and definitely recommend audio as the best format. The actor who reads it is simply amazing (and I think it helps with one of the main criticisms, which is that you sometimes can't tell who "he" refers to - hint - it's mostly Cromwell).

LOL! Yes, this group has a tendency to do that!

ETA: And I also hated "Wolf Hall". :-)

Theresa | 15524 comments Rumor has it that Joanne's husband had to add a few absorbant durable layers to that wall given how many books she has thrown at it. Otherwise, the wall would have had to be rebuilt multiple times to prevent the house from falling down.

🥰

I was doing so well with Trim and then got a bit behind lately. Still need to do my August and October books and excited for the November buddy read!

Heather Reads Books (gothicgunslinger) | 859 comments I'm so curious about Wolf Hall because of all the divisions!! I was only nominally interested before, but now I'm dying to read it to see what camp I fall into.

message 223: by Hannah (new)

Hannah | 3296 comments Kateloves2read wrote: "Just out of curiosity, is there a camp meh for those in the it was ok category?"

I'm quite neutral on it. I read Wold Hall when it first came out and before I joined GR. I liked it well enough to want to read the other two books when they were published - I thought that they were both better - but I didn't like it enough for it to really stand out in my memory.

message 224: by Theresa (new)

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) | 8414 comments Amy ... I'm not sure about 2023 ... Do I just keep my list as originally created and the numbers that will be chosen by our pickers are the numbers we did NOT used in 2022?

OR ...the pickers are restricted to those numbers we did NOT use in 2022, BUT ... we have the chance to switch out titles for those remaining numbers before 2023 reading year begins?

OR... do we replace the titles for #s that were picked in 2022 and any titles for the numbers that weren't already chosen can be replaced or left as is, and the pickers for 2023 will have all 24 numbers to choose from?

Hope that made sense because just typing it out makes me feel more confused ... LOL.

I'm not sure if I am remembering correctly, but I thought we moved them down to fit to 12.

I could easily add another 12 and bring it back to 24.

message 229: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12916 comments I’m glad I caught this so I can easily answer this question. Yes you have the remaining 13 numbers to choose from, and when we start in 2023, I will take the remaining buddy reads and move them all together to a new number if they were after 13, so they stay together. And yes we are going to go for a list of 12 that we can completely remake. And then the next 12 pickers can choose from the remaining 12. As always, I want Anita and Fran to present the year-long challenges first and when they do we will set everything up for trim so that people can keep those in mind as they are creating or re-creating their lists. But for you, you are the last person who has all 13 numbers to choose from. I hope that makes sense.

Heather Reads Books (gothicgunslinger) | 859 comments As someone who already has an "additional trim books" nomination list for 2023, I both can't believe the year has gone so quickly, and am looking forward to reorganizing my list down to 12. Thanks as always for running this unofficial challenge, Amy, it's helped me get to so many books I've been meaning to read for ages!

message 231: by Book Concierge (new)

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) | 8414 comments Okay ... to be clear ....

We keep the 12 that will be left from our original 24 and just renumber them #1-12 (possibly re-ordering them ?)

...or ...

We post a new (possibly) set of 12 titles for a new set of # 1-12. (Free to keep the original list if we want ... and just re-order them.)

message 232: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 15524 comments BC - my take is the 2023 list will be 12 - whether it is the remaining 12 from this year's 24 list or you just start over with a whole new set of 12, or some combo of the same, it is up to you.

Those with buddy reads with others in Trim that are still unread from the 2022 list, those now numbered 13 through 24 will be inserted by Amy into the spaces now open in 1 through 12 for everyone.

If you are not in any of the still open buddy reads, then you either renumber or replace or reorganize those remaining on your list.

Does that help?

message 233: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12916 comments As I have done the last number of times, I will help us re-order them. I guess for you it doesn’t matter Tessa, because you have said you never do the buddy reads anyway. But what I will do is move the ones that are 13 and up into spaces that we have already used. Thereby having each of them preserved on a number. I promise you this will be very easy and very clear. I’m just not doing it now. But by the time you pick, it will be that much easier just to list them if it is needed that early.

Meli (melihooker) | 4165 comments I like to reassess and change things up.
Before this year's trim I added many shorter books because I knew I could get those read.
Not sure what I will do for next year.
I want to target most aged on my tbr.
I don't think I have any buddy read ones left, but I will double check.

Overlooked! So low on the totem pole as to be forgotten!

I cried myself to sleep last night...😭

In my tentative 2023 list [book:The Summer Before the War
is #12. List needs some work still.
