I know the saying is to NOT judge a book by its cover, but when the cover is gorgeous, how can you not? So pick up a really pretty book to read this year!

Recommendations:

The Lost Apothecary by Sarah Penner
The Girl Who Drank the Moon by Kelly Barnhill
When the World Was Ours by Liz Kessler
Elatsoe by Darcie Little Badger

Leslie | 25 comments I read a middle-grade book, Cinders & Sparrows, that had one of the most beautiful covers I've seen in a while. The hardcover dust jacket even has little gold sparkles on it.

This book could also count for Non-Harry Potter magic, and Portal Fantasy.
Cinders & Sparrows by Stefan Bachmann

Karen | 76 comments A Sense of Self Memory, the Brain, and Who We Are by Veronica O'Keane A Sense of Self: Memory, the Brain, and Who We Are This book by an Irish psychiatrist was filled with neurobiological and psychological insights. I own the book and will reread some of the chapters that were especially new to me. Writings from the United States dominate my reading list; the cultural differences between the United States and Ireland were intriguing.
