Welcome to the challenge. I hope you have a great reading year.

MJ | 176 comments January 3 and I'm already onto a classic!

To the Lighthouse
I shelved this one to my tbr in 2014! Apparently she is a brilliant writer, and perhaps I've left it this long in case I don't agree.

I am reading it for
O5: Book Published 1900 - 1949

I think this year I will work through the 'O' line, instead of randomly choosing from the whole bingo board. It looks doable. I'm thinking of reading Heidi next, a favourite from my childhood, but I might be planning to far ahead! Let's finish Woolf's book first!

MJ | 176 comments I am BAD at sticking to reading plans, especially when a book is like pulling a tooth.

I have had a love for Stephen King since seeing Cujo in the late 1980s, but until now, I haven't gotten to reading Pet Sematary. It isn't tagged as a classic, but imho, any older King is a classic. This is for:
B1: Book Published 1950 - 1999

i have a pristine first edition copy that I picked up in small town nw ontario.

I will not dispute that Virginia Woolf is an excellent writer, but the pace of To The Lighthouse is too slow for my sanity. I'm a quarter of the way through, and I doubt anyone will convince me to read another of her books. I've long wanted to read something of hers, and BY GOLLY I will finish the book. Just not this week. I was expecting Rachel Carson meets Edith Wharton and walks along the beach, and I despair to think we'll never get to the lighthouse.

I listened to A Room of One's Own and read Mrs. Dalloway. Liked both but I'm still wary of her other books.

B1: Book Published 1950 - 1999

I'm sure it's considered a classic. Less scary than expected. It scores higher on the "dread and anticipation of being scary" scale.

Amazingly, I did finish To the Lighthouse. It got better. I'm glad I forced myself through it. I think it will be a long while before I think to pick up another of her books.

I'm not sure what I'll pick up next. I have a few non-classic books on the go that I should finish first.

I loved Pet Sematary. Only I have deleted all of my King books. I made that decision after trying to read The Stand.

I had to read Mrs Dalloway for a class a few years ago. Woolf's reputation outstretches her actual talent. Only the very intelligent and/or the very snobbish have enjoyed the book; at least that is my observation over the years.

I definitely did not love this one. Cujo, andThe Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon are up there as faves. I have not read all of them though, especially not his newer stuff.

His newer stuff is as good as his classics, in my eyes. Doctor Sleep was a mix of good and bad. I DNFed it. Wish you good luck in your challenge!
