*Actually read in Nov 2021, but I'm behind in reviews*
A great mix of humor and heart- focusing on lesser-thought relationships within a family- largely two children and their 'guncle' or gay uncle. GUP- Gay Uncle Patrick, a "washed" out actor now living in Florida- is now in guardianship of his nephew and niece Maisie and Grant after a death in the family, and their father checking himself into rehab. He is reluctant at first, but grows fond of the children.
I loved the building of their relationship, and the frankness of how Patrick treated them like tiny humans. Patrick seemed like a believable character- he was pretty over the top, but I never felt the character arc was insensitive or ignorant portraying a LGBTQ character. The writing was laugh-out-loud funny, in help perhaps due to the audiobook narrator. I did feel the romance story line was a little unnecessary- and things were tied up a little too perfectly in the end, but hey- you are left with all the warm fuzzies in the end, and that's what counts.
