Guys, this movie was out since 2013 stateside. It only just got released here in UK so I went to see it this afternoon.

This is a really impressive piece of indie science fiction that racks up the suspense with increasing tension, mind bending sci-fi, fascinating characters, and entertaining dark comedy. I include this film in this section for a reason but I cant tell you why!

The brief synopsis is that strange things start to occur when a group of friends (4 couples) gather around for a dinner party while an astronomical event a comet pass-by occurs on the same night.

I strongly urge you not to know anything more than that and not to watch the trailer either which is why I deliberately link to that at the end of this post. The movie captures a delightful realism of friends chit chat, trust, distrust and drama, stuff that we can actually relate to, things like bitchy talk of "who invited her?" but of course this being a scifi conceptual movie, it smoothly moves into a twilight zone style of highly edgy suspense and thrills. Its like a spooky thriller version of Carnage (an indie drama) with a huge dose of Primer (prbably the most complex time travel movie ever made) but with a more polished production and excellent use of sound to crank up that tension.

So I wont go into story but if you like to see a film that is highly unpredictable, throws in a dose of theoretical science, entertain you with wonderfully defined range of characters from the passive to the paranoid, and a sprinkle of jumpy moments due to the film's very claustrophobic environment, then this is a must film for you to check out and enjoy.

I mentioned Primer but unlike Primer, this film doesn't forget to entertain you along the way while maintaining the suspense and mystery. Primer is an undoubtedly cult classic and probably still stands as the most impressively complex film to date but it is a cold slog. In contrast, this film rolls with a tightly strung narrative of twists and turns but with a strong focus on character, relationship and dialogue.

So if you enjoy films cult scifi niche films like Primer, Momento, Timecrimes and welcome a fusion of dinner table drama (Abigail's Party, Carnage) then give this a watch if you havent already.

After my huge disappointment of the $150m+ Jupiter Ascending last week, its a refreshing delight to put that behind me very quickly with this high quality low budget entry in the high concept scifi genre.

8.5/10

So OK, if you still want to see a trailer, here it is but if you trust me and invested already, I recommend not to watch the trailer:

One last thing. Of recent times, I have become an amateur astronomer and given this film features prominently the passing of a comet, I'd like to share my very own personal encounter with one that passed by just a few weeks ago, called Comet Lovejoy which you may have heard about? as it did pass relatively close, though nothing like Haley's comet...I am proud to have captured this image on my telescope but I hope I won't suffer any repercussions from it!
