I am starting Mug Shot and also reading The Lost Apothecary for my face-to-face book club.

This is the first book in a new epic fantasy series. Overall, it is gripping and thought-provoking. The high stakes and smooth writing made it a page turner for me. There’s a lot of time spent introducing the characters and some of their back-stories as well as world-building, but that’s not unusual in the first book in a series of this magnitude. However, there is a lot of introspection by the main character that slows the pace as times.

I picked up this book knowing nothing about the writer, and this was just not a good fit for me.

I am doing a buddy read of Things We Do in the Dark starting July 5th. I'm looking forward to it. I've only read one book by Jennifer Hillier before and I really enjoyed it.

Next I'm starting The Gatekeeper. A friend reviewed it as a mashup of Orphan X and Jack Reacher, which should be excellent.

Night Circus is SO good!!

Set in Harlem in the late 1920’s, Harlem Sunset by Nekesa Afia brings to life the vibrant nightlife, jazz music, dancing, and cultural awareness of the times. It’s not just a historical mystery, but also the character journey of protagonist Louise Lloyd.

A fun read was Twenties Girl by Sophie Kinsella https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
A well written biography - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
An Afro-Asian romance (don't be put off by my stars--almost every romance I like gets this one as do some other genres) https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

(MIGHT CONTAIN SPOILERS)
- Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus - absolutely loved it!
- The Sheltering Sky by Paul Boles - absolutely hated it. Had to finish it for my book club.
- God Spare the Girls by Kelsey McKinney - I liked it and was interested in the author’s approach to Christianity, sisterhood, and religious “infidelity.”
- Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt - it was an enjoyable, escapist read that didn’t quite live up to the hype I’d read. I loved Marcellus!
- The Lincoln Highway by Amor Towles - I thought it could have been a lot better. I was left frustrated that they never actually made the trip to find their mother.
I’m currently reading Final Girls by Riley Sager.

Brian Feehan’s debut novel, Harmony of Fire is an intense paranormal romantic suspense novel with plenty of action, thrills, and edginess. The author’s creativity and great world-building stand out in this novel. (Brian is the son of Christine Feehan).

I've enjoyed all the Heyer novels except this one (something had to be the least liked).

This novel combines genetic engineering science fiction with a techno-thriller. The story is engaging and suspenseful, keeping me turning the pages.

Anna Harrington provides readers with a historical fiction tale that includes romance, danger, and suspense. This book has a solid plot, with great character depth, extraordinary characters, and a fascinating mystery.

This was an enjoyable historical mystery and character journey.

The author layers multiple themes as the story focuses on the challenges students face in order to get an education as well as the lengths colleges will go to in order to receive donations from wealthy donors.

Death by Bubble Tea

An unconventional but memorable nonfiction about the powerful Immune system. The author's style made the information accessible to many ages (teenaged and up) and regardless of the reader's knowledge level of biology.
