I am starting Mug Shot and also reading The Lost Apothecary for my face-to-face book club.

I finished reading The Maid by Nita Prose. Took me way too long to get around to reading this one but I did choose it for my ftf bc to read. Really good book enjoyed by everyone. Now, I'm struggling to read a non-fiction, The Watchmakers: A Story of Brotherhood, Survival, and Hope Amid the Holocaust by Harry Lenga. So far five days and I'm only half way though and it's not that long a book.

I was surprised to learn I was a bit mistaken about the significance of the actual date, June 19. The Juneteenth Story: Celebrating the End of Slavery in the United States by Alliah L. Agostini set me straight in this well-illustrated book for kids (and ignorant grown-ups like me).

Currently reading the spanish love deception i really hope its good alot of people say its not the best but i have a little hope for the book. I just finished book lovers and i think i am in love with charlie lastra. That man has my heart❤️

This is the first book in a new epic fantasy series. Overall, it is gripping and thought-provoking. The high stakes and smooth writing made it a page turner for me. There’s a lot of time spent introducing the characters and some of their back-stories as well as world-building, but that’s not unusual in the first book in a series of this magnitude. However, there is a lot of introspection by the main character that slows the pace as times.

All the Single Ladies: Unmarried Women and the Rise of an Independent Nation by Rebecca Traister

I picked up this book knowing nothing about the writer, and this was just not a good fit for me.

I am doing a buddy read of Things We Do in the Dark starting July 5th. I'm looking forward to it. I've only read one book by Jennifer Hillier before and I really enjoyed it.

I'm wrapping up Mug Shot today. I thought it was ok. I'm a little done with the tropes though - spicy red head that 3 gorgeous men are all attracted to. Meh.

Next I'm starting The Gatekeeper. A friend reviewed it as a mashup of Orphan X and Jack Reacher, which should be excellent.

Book 4 of Lovely Lethal Gardens series Dagger in the Dahlias by Dale Mayer

I am very fond of Aussie author Emma Viskic's Caleb Zelic, but this is said to be the deaf investigator's last story. (I tweeted to her that Kat and the ancestors will pester her to continue!) Those Who Perish is excellent, and I want more!

Sherlock Holmes Retold for Children by Alex Woolf with illustrations by Eve O'Brien is a terrific set of classic stories that can be enjoyed by all ages. This is a 16-book box set of chapter books, but there are singles and audios and small sets, too. All libraries should have them!

I’ve read several books over the past two months.

(MIGHT CONTAIN SPOILERS)

- Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus - absolutely loved it!
- The Sheltering Sky by Paul Boles - absolutely hated it. Had to finish it for my book club.
- God Spare the Girls by Kelsey McKinney - I liked it and was interested in the author’s approach to Christianity, sisterhood, and religious “infidelity.”
- Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt - it was an enjoyable, escapist read that didn’t quite live up to the hype I’d read. I loved Marcellus!
- The Lincoln Highway by Amor Towles - I thought it could have been a lot better. I was left frustrated that they never actually made the trip to find their mother.

I’m currently reading Final Girls by Riley Sager.

I'm reading The Bodyguard .

Euphoria is a lovely state if you can achieve it. Lily King's Nell Stone (a fictional version of anthropologist Margaret Mead ) does get carried away with her studies of primitive societies, but this book is more about jealousy and desire in her own. Fascinating setting, research, and characters.

Book 5 of Lovely Lethal Gardens series Evidence in the Echinacea by Dale Mayer

That clever femme-fatale Phryne Fisher solves all kinds of crimes in these short stories, The Lady with the Gun Asks the Questions, by Aussie author Kerry Greenwood. One for fans of the fabulous Miss Fisher.
