PattyMacDotComma Women's words - finally found? Imaginative Aussie author Pip Williams's young character, Esme, wants to put together The Dictionary of Lost Words. Why were all the ignored words for, by, and about women considered dirty? (Many still are.)

Carly (kittyreading) | 2 comments i just finished reading Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover and i can’t even begin to describe the impact it had on me! it was the first book by colleen i’ve ever read, and her writing style is insane and beautiful and powerful.
as a graphic designer, i really appreciated the way the type was set as well, along with things like scale to really make what she was writing have specific emphasis and impact in places where she felt necessary, and i’m so glad she did.
the characters are extremely emotionally in depth, especially considering the short length of this novel, and the emotions are so raw and heartbreaking and heart…flying! i literally couldn’t put it down since i picked it up, it’s probably the fastest i’ve ever read a book in my life. highly recommend, and if anyone wants to gush about it with me i’m forever open!

PamG (lynguy1) | 1027 comments Here is my 4 star review of Blue Fire Blue Fire (Victoria Emerson, #2) by John Gilstrap by John Gilstrap.
I’ve seen it classified as post-apocalyptic, political thriller, and action thriller among others. Those are all fitting classifications to me. It's shocking, disturbing at times, suspenseful, and definitely pulse accelerating.

PamG (lynguy1) | 1027 comments I finished The Investigator The Investigator by John Sandford by John Sandford. This is the first book in a new series by Sandford. It features Letty Davenport as the main character.

Overall, this was suspenseful, unsettling, and action packed with compelling characters that kept me turning the pages. With a heart-rending plot, exciting scenes, and fascinating story, it captivated and terrified me. It’s a great start to a series and I’m looking forward to reading more about Letty and her future assignments.

Kristie | 5928 comments I finished The Christie Affair yesterday. I was really torn between 3 and 4 stars on this one. I may still change my mind. I listened to the audio with my husband and he is giving it 5 stars, so I don't know... maybe it's just me. I'll think on it and see how I feel in a couple of days.

PattyMacDotComma I have missed Mick Herron's spies, the Slow Horses. These two novellas slot neatly into his much-loved Slough House series but can be enjoyed together without reading the rest.

The List is #2.5 and shows John Bachelor doing 'the milk run', babysitting retired, elderly spooks. Tricky!
The List (Slough House, #2.5) by Mick Herron 4.5★ My review of The List

The Drop is #5.5 and follows the action from The List. Old-school tricks are recognised by old-school spooks!
