I’m reading a book called The Price of Passion by Maureen Child

I started to read Club Dead, book number three in the Sookie Stackhouse series and realized that I had no idea who the characters were nor any of the back story. After looking up when I had read the first book in the series, which was in 2015, I decided to see if my library had book number two available. They did, and I finished Living Dead in Dallas yesterday morning. Still not satisfied about the first book, I looked it up, and realized that I had it in my Nook library on my tablet. I just finished re-reading Dead Until Dark and I am READY to enjoy Club Dead finally. :o)

I am very fond of Aussie author Emma Viskic's Caleb Zelic, but this is said to be the deaf investigator's last story. (I tweeted to her that Kat and the ancestors will pester her to continue!) Those Who Perish is excellent, and I want more!

Sherlock Holmes Retold for Children by Alex Woolf with illustrations by Eve O'Brien is a terrific set of classic stories that can be enjoyed by all ages. This is a 16-book box set of chapter books, but there are singles and audios and small sets, too. All libraries should have them!

I've started The Bodyguard .

Euphoria is a lovely state if you can achieve it. Lily King's Nell Stone (a fictional version of anthropologist Margaret Mead ) does get carried away with her studies of primitive societies, but this book is more about jealousy and desire in her own. Fascinating setting, research, and characters.

I finished The Other People on audiobook and The Prayer of the Night Shepherd on Kindle. I will start Ink and Bone and The Surgeon today. Both are road trip selections. I'm hoping to finish this badge soon.

Although I usually try not to, I'm reading many books at the same time.

I'm really enjoying The Bone Clocks.

I'm also reading Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail.

My non fiction book is Build Your Running Body, and

I am also deciding on an audiobook after finishing Hombres buenos by Arturo Pérez-Reverte (I can't find an English edition)

You've got a lot on the go, Sandra! I really enjoyed the Bone Clocks as well.

It's my first David Mitchell's and not what I was expecting, but I'm happily surprised.

It's one of my favorites of his. I never read Cloud Atlas but I saw the movie. Maybe I'll read it one day.

That clever femme-fatale Phryne Fisher solves all kinds of crimes in these short stories, The Lady with the Gun Asks the Questions, by Aussie author Kerry Greenwood. One for fans of the fabulous Miss Fisher.

Sandra - I have owned The Bone Clocks for some time, but not gotten around to reading it yet. I am glad to hear you are liking it. I did not like Cloud Atlas the first time through, but after a re-read or two, I finally did. My favorite has been The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet.

I really was amazed by Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail. After you finish it, you MUST read Grandma Gatewood's Walk: The Inspiring Story of the Woman Who Saved the Appalachian Trail for the CONTRAST!

Cherie, I was taking a look at David Mitchell's author page, and Cloud Atlas doesn't look very appealing to me. The one you mention and Black Swan Green are the one I might pick next.

The Grandma Gatewood's book looks so good! The cover is quite something. Added.

Cherie, I am a big of David Mitchell but I hated Cloud Atlas! The Bone Clocks is my very favourite, I just love the way they are all interlinked. I've recently finished Utopia Avenue which is mostly about music but he still managed to bet his link in ;-)

I've just finished The Turn of the Key and The Other Einstein, both enjoyable. The Einstein book has me think one again of how much potential the human race has lost due to its attitude to women.

I've just started The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek.

I finished Ink and Bone on audiobook and The Surgeon on Kindle yesterday. That means I start off today with a new slate - The Time Traveler's Wifeon audiobook and Lives of the Saints on paperback.

Time Traveler's Wife is for my real life book club. We meet on the 14th. Cutting it close. I thought I had it on hold, but I had it on the wishlist. I went online to check the status of it and fortunately it was available for download. Phew! Otherwise I was going to use a credit to purchase it.

The Lives of the Saint will finish my Badge 2. Woot!

I've started Fatal Witness . It is #7 of the Erika Foster series that started with The Girl in the Ice. I'm only 13% in, but it jumped right in.

I don't know where to post this, so I'm doing it here. There are times (often enough to be annoying) that Goodreads flips the switch to "read" on books that I haven't finished. I look at a book from my tbr to see if I want to start it, decide not to, and the next thing I know I get a message in my email that I've finished the book, how did I like it. It happens when I check the book on my Kindle (on books that I own). Then I have to go back into My Books and make the correction back to "to read". Has this happened to anyone else?
And what do others think of the "new" Beta system? I like the original view and have said so in the feedback. Annoying to keep switching every time I bring up a book to check.

I've occassionally found books on my "read" shelf that should be on my "wishlist" shelf. I don't know how it happens. It's not just Goodreads. It's Microsoft and Excel that arbitrarily change settings that I know I did not initiate. I wish I knew how that was happening so that I could prevent it.

I dislike the Beta system for the new book page, and switched back. I imagine with them changing your ability to name who referred a book to you will likely mess up some other coding, and we'll have a mess on our hands.

I don't like the idea of someone messing with my shelves. Not nice!

I've had books moved from my to-read shelf to my read shelf as well. It usually happens when you make some kind of change, such as adding it to a different shelf or entering a drawing.

As far as the beta, I'm not sure why you have to keep switching back. I set it to one or the other and it stays there until I change it again. I never have it automatically switching.

I have just started Things We Do in the Dark by Jennifer Hillier. I've only read one other book by her and really enjoyed it. This book jumped right into the action at the beginning.

A friend in another group was saying yesterday that he keeps being directed to the beta all the time, and he has to switch again. It might be a glitch.

I'm finished Lives of the Saints last night qnd now i can go hog wild on Badge 3 books. I will start A Train to Moscow tonight to check off two boxes, Badge 3 book and group themed read.

You'll have to let me know what you think of A Train to Moscow. I was going to read it for the Road Trip challenge but changed my mind at the last minute.

Will do. If it doesn't pan out, I have substitutions that will work for both road trip and themed read.

I am finishing the last book in Dean Koontz's Frankenstein series and I was so happy to see a character appear who is from my very favorite Koontz series Odd Thomas! This book has Brother Knuckles!!! Who makes an appearance in Brother Odd! Love it!

I just finished Fatal Witness . I thought it was an excellent addition to the series. I really hope Bryndza doesn't wait quite as long before the next installment.

I’m reading a book called The Boy in the Barn by Ciana Stone

I finished reading The Time Traveler's Wife. I'm so glad that is done. I wouldn't have chosen to read this book if it wasn't for my real life book club. If I had, I doubt I would have finished it.

Will start A Long Petal of the Sea. I'm afraid that I may struggle with this one too.

Everybody deserves A Little Bit of Respect, and this delightful children's picture book from Claire Alexander shows even grown-ups how easy it is to slip up (and embarrass ourselves 😊 ).

I finished A Train to Moscow. It hit several boxes for me - themed read, new release, road trip challenge - but it wasn't a hit for me.

I will start The Chalice and the Blade and see if it appeals to me. I feel like I haven't had a hit in a long time.

I only just missed Nikola Tesla's birthday (July 9) when I read the children's bio by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara. It's another in the great Little People BIG DREAMS series about historic figures.

Leavers, Schoolies, Spring Break - whatever you call it when kids on the brink of adulthood take off on their own - parents hope for the best.

Guess what? Town destination refused entry, so where to go? The Brink, Brink Island, an isolated island off the coast of Western Australia, of course. Western Australian author Holden Sheppard understands this place and these kids.
