Janice (jamasc) | 59907 comments You might find it more interesting than me. I think my current mind frame is part of the problem. I find that I need more light fluffy reads these days. I'm beginning to think that I might to set aside some genres and focus more on others.

PattyMacDotComma In the Market for Murder by T.E. Kinsey finds amateur sleuths Lady Hardcastle and her maid, Armstrong, investigating why a local farmer died suddenly in the pub where they were lunching. Hardly the atmosphere they moved to the country for!
In the Market for Murder (Lady Hardcastle Mysteries #2) by T.E. Kinsey 3.5~4★ My review of In the Market for Murder

Lilisa | 2770 comments Finished Remarkably Bright Creatures - an enjoyable listen. I really liked Marcellus, the octopus! Short review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Janice (jamasc) | 59907 comments I finished A Long Petal of the Sea for the monthy challenge and the road trip challenge. Today I start an audiobook that is over 50 hours long! Shōgun will fit my road trip challenge.

message 507: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4530 comments I read Shōgun years ago (really liked it) and have a print copy on my bookshelf. Very thick. It's on my list of books to reread....some day.

Kristie | 19154 comments I finished Things We Do in the Dark Things We Do in the Dark by Jennifer Hillier . I really enjoyed this one.

my Things We Do in the Dark review

Kristie | 19154 comments I'm reading Upgrade Upgrade by Blake Crouch .

message 511: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59907 comments I decided to pack it in with Shōgun. It's so long. I have over 30 hours to go and my mind keeps wandering. Problem is, I have to decide what to replace it with. I have Wolfhunter River next on my list and I'm not in the mood for a serial killer. So, I'm off to peruse my "to listen to" shelf for inspiration.

Janice (jamasc) | 59907 comments Decision made - I'm going to go with some light and fluffy, Soulless.

message 513: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Soulless will give you a few good laughs, Janice. It is quite a different look at Vampires and Werewolves in Victorian England. Don’t drive off of the road! 😁

Kristie | 19154 comments I started The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek today and made it to 25%. I don't think this one will take me very long.

message 515: by PattyMacDotComma (new)

PattyMacDotComma I love it when a favourite author is convinced to continue a story. Lying Beside You is celebrated Aussie mystery writer Michael Robotham's excellent addition to the Cyrus Haven (& Evie Cormac) series. But you can pick it up and enjoy the suspense and action straight away, because Robotham will fill you in.
Lying Beside You (Cyrus Haven, #3) by Michael Robotham 5★ My review of Lying Beside You

Janice (jamasc) | 59907 comments I'm enjoying it so far. I like the trope of a take-no-guff woman. I'm reminded of Veronica Speedwell and should get back to that series.

message 517: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59907 comments I finished my print book, The Chalice and the Blade. It's the 1st book in a trilogy. I think each book is a different character focus and this one ended nicely wrapped up. I'm not going to read on. I lost interest about 1/2 way through.

I seem to lean towards light and fluffy, so I'll start Strawberry Shortcake Murder tonight.

PattyMacDotComma Chinese-born Qian Julie Wang was only five when she was warned she had to behave, be quiet and blend in - or they'd be deported. As she writes in Beautiful Country: A Memoir, it was hard for her to understand why her professor parents became menial workers.
Beautiful Country A Memoir by Qian Julie Wang 3.5★ My review of Beautiful Country

Janice (jamasc) | 59907 comments I finished Soulless and found it enjoyable, but not as enjoyable as Veronica Speedwell, so I will start the 3rd book in that series, A Treacherous Curse today.

I think I read it or at least tried to a long, long time ago, Sandra. Good luck!

PattyMacDotComma I always enjoy the investigative exploits of the self-made computer-nerd 'family' known as the Monkeewrench crew. Off the Grid by P.J. Tracy has Native Americans, terrorists, and kidnappers. Loved it!

Kira (kiraa18) | 654 comments I started reading The Wise Man's Fear by Patrick Rothfuss after putting it off for more than a month now, I loved the first book in this series but the 994 pages in this one kind of freaked me out a little, well I finally braced myself and off we go!

Sharon Hopper | 2423 comments For my birthday this year, my daughter gave me a cute summer bin filled with 12 books. Each book is wrapped with brown paper with some written clues on the front: setting, thriller, author…I open one book a month and am currently engrossed in The Last Flight. So far it is quite good with lots of twists and turns.

Sandra (sanlema) | 11264 comments Sharon, that is a wonderful gift.

Janice (jamasc) | 59907 comments I finished Strawberry Shortcake Murder last night and started A Certain Slant of Light.

message 538: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Kira - don’t read it too quickly. 994 pages seems like a lot but it is over all too quickly and there is still no third book in sight. You will love the novella next though, I hope.

message 539: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Janice- your new book title is going down on my spreadsheet where I track book covers for potential future tasks. Bathtub, anyone???

message 540: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59907 comments Cherie wrote: "Janice- your new book title is going down on my spreadsheet where I track book covers for potential future tasks. Bathtub, anyone???"

It's an interesting cover isn't it? I recall that I wanted to do a task with a urn on the cover and it got amended to vessel to contain water. Someone asked for verification on a bathtub and I believe I said no. It was too much of a stretch to go from urn to a bathtub.

Maybe there will be a future task involving something like a bathtub. I don't think there are many covers with one. It might be a hard task on its own.

message 541: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59907 comments Ooo, Cherie. I just found another - Memoirs Found in a Bathtub by Stanisław Lem . Maybe it's not so uncommon. This is one of today's Kindle Daily Deals.

message 542: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19154 comments I've seen a few covers with bathtubs on them, but I can't think of any off the top of my head. That would be a good task to gopher for.

Janice (jamasc) | 59907 comments I finished A Treacherous Curse. I gave it 4 stars but I"m debating going back and changing my rating to 5 stars, I enjoyed it so much. I'm even debating about reading the next installment of the series back to back. Veronica sure doesn't take guff from anyone.

message 546: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19154 comments That's great, Janice! Looking forward to it.

message 547: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59907 comments I packed it in with A Certain Slant of Light at about the half way mark. I found it distasteful and lost interest in the story. I don't know what I'll read. My slate is completely empty. I have to find a new ghost book for my road trip, and new books to start today. I've checked off everything I'd planned for July. I'll decide this afternoon. I have to focus on working right now.

message 548: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59907 comments I've decided to read A Life Without Water on ebook and Lost Among the Living on audiobook. Both have spots in my road trip challenge.
