I've done it too. I can't even say it's my subconscious because sometimes I plan the reads before I know something will be happening.

I'm reading Piranesi, and also started Ten Women for the monthly challenge.

I am reading The Magician's Nephew to my four youngest ones.

I am currently reading the third book in the Niuhi Shark Saga called One Truth, No Lie. I finished the first one for the monthly challenge and the second one for a yearly challenge task. It is a YA trilogy for middle grade readers set in Hawaii. I am beyond a middle grade reader, but the stories are great and the characters well written and believable, even if they are fantasy. The author also has a book of short stories I will be looking forward to reading.
She calls it The Lauele Universe. "The Lauele Universe is full of stories that explore the intersections of Hawai'i past, present and future."

I've decided to read some of the 'good' books I somehow missed when they were published, and the 1995 Pulitzer winner, The Stone Diaries by Carol Shields was one. What a writer! A life in a century!

I finished Project Hail Mary. The information dump was a bit much, but I enjoyed the interplay between the two main characters.

Lexx is reading this at the moment. He is into really dense science based sci fi, loves physics, maths, astrophysics, etc. While we were having a beer with the bees tonight he remarked he was really enjoying this book but a good deal of the science was denser than he could unravel. So not just you!

Ya, I wonder how they will portray Rocky. It will be interesting to see how they handle that.

Rusalka, good to know that I'm not the only one who struggled with it.

I finished my print book last night too. Gravity was a tension filled sci-fi. Between Project Hail Mary and Gravity, I certainly immersed myself in all things space.

Tonight, I will start a plain old mystery, The Hiding Place: A Thriller.

I finished The Winter Soldier. I haven't read any war books for almost 2 years, because it just felt way too depressing to add on top of all the other depressing things going on. For some reason I made an exception for this one. Definitely not a bad books, and I'm sure there are many books that make reading about war even harder than this one, but still I found it hard to continue sometimes. No more war books for me. And off to something lighter next! Maybe I'll start The Storyteller: Tales of Life and Music

I finished the Impossible Times trilogy book Dispel Illusion. There were times when time travel paradoxes made my head hurt but it was a good wrap at the end. Another series I can bump off of my list now.

I am starting another last book in a trilogy for the buddy read with Janice and others. The Light of All That Falls. This one will be for a yearly challenge task also.

Another in the Little People/BIG DREAMS series for children is the stunningly colourful Pablo Picasso by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara. The illustrations by Teresa Bellón are outrageously wild - as was the artist himself, of course. Loved it!

I enjoyed Isaac Asimov's aptly named short story The Gentle Vultures about aliens waiting for us to blow ourselves to kingdom come. I share his anti-nuclear-war sentiments.

I finished The Hiding Place: A Thriller. It's been on my tbr for ages and it could have stayed there. Two stars for a boring and predictable read.

I started my first book for the year long challenge, The North Water and I'm already impressed by the writing.

I'm also listening to The Book of Lamentations. The writing is also impressive, and the story very touching.

I finished The Invention of Wings. It's been awhile since I got so engrossed in a book that I wasn't falling asleep as soon as I picked it up. I seem to constantly monitor where I am in a book and how much is left to finish and with one, I just kept turning the pages until perhaps the last 1/4 of the book. It kind of dragged down a bit.

I will start The King of Warsaw today. I'm not sure about this one, but I got it for free in the World Book Day, and it fits the road trip challenge. So off to Poland I go.

I'm still reading The Last House on the Street and I'm not yet sure where the story is going.

I also started The Christie Affair on audio while traveling with Craig over the weekend. We got about 50% through and I've put it aside for a few days so that we can continue listening together next weekend. I also have questions around this story line.

Between these two books I feel like I'm asking why quite a bit right now.

I'm starting Sundial tomorrow. It is the newest release by the author of The Last House on Needless Street, which I really enjoyed.

One of the best I've ever read Janice.

I loved Aussie author Christian White's latest novel Wild Place. The local Neighbourhood Watch group gets a little too active during the 1989 Christmas holidays when a teen disappears.

Jeffery Deaver's short story, Captivated, is a prequel to his Colter Shaw series. Shaw is using some old-school tactics - actual maps and interviews - to find a missing wife.

I started it last night and I was less than impressed. But then I was tired and falling asleep. I will give it another chance tonight to catch my interest otherwise, it's deleted.

I finished Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail. I so enjoyed listening to Cheryl's journey while on my own walks and runs. Though not out of first hand experience, I can really understand the healing power of walking.

I'm a bit relieved to finally be finished The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue. It was a good story but something didn't work. It could have been the pacing or the narration or simply that some books need to read, not listened to :-/

I finished The Light of All That Falls and have crossed off another series. I'm so glad this convoluted trilogy is behind me.

I will start The Burning Swift tomorrow. It is the final book in a trilogy as well. I loved the first two books in the series, so I'm hopeful this will be another great read.
