Kristie | 19155 comments I'm reading The Mermaid's Sister and it's pretty dreary. I was expecting whimsical, but that is not what this book is at all.

Janice (jamasc) | 59911 comments With the toppler over, I will return to my audiobook, The Eye of the World.

Tonight I will start Two Graves on ebook.

PattyMacDotComma This is a bright, appealing children's picture book that would be good for pointing out shapes and finding items from one page to the next. Chelsea O'Byrne is both author and illustrator, and it's lovely.
If I Were King by Chelsea O'Byrne 4★ My review of If I Were King with several of her illustrations

PattyMacDotComma Just finished Aussie author Anni Taylor's suspenseful One Last Child (Tallman Valley's Detectives, book 1), which takes place in the beautiful, mysterious Blue Mountains west of Sydney. Complicating things is that one of the abducted children is Detective Kate Wakeland's granddaughter.
One Last Child (Tallman's Valley Detectives, #1) by Anni Taylor 4★ My review of One Last Child

Margo | 11635 comments I started Heir to Sevenwaters last night and I'm loving it.

I thought that was my final badge 1 read but I'd forgotten one so not finishing yet 😲

Kristie | 19155 comments I just finished Sitting Murder during the toppler. It is a classic feeling Victorian murder mystery. It reminded me of reading Agatha Christie due to the multiple suspects and the way the detective investigated and figured things out.

Sitting Murder (Lancashire Detective, #4) by A.J. Wright my Sitting Murder review

I am currently reading Apples Never Fall for the monthly challenge and starting The Golden Couple for a buddy read in another group.

Sandra (sanlema) | 11264 comments I've started Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants for my RL book club. I'm finding it a little slow, but still enjoyable.

I also started The Lincoln Highway. How do I like Amor Towles's writing...

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I finished listening to a new audiobook from my llibrary. I do not see the audiobook listed in GR, but the story is What to Do When Someone Dies: A Novel. I was glued to my chair listening!

message 164: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11635 comments Finished Blackberry Wine which was disappointing. Started The Witch's Daughter which is definitely my final badge 1 book!

Gavin (thewalkingdude) | 340 comments I'm reading Gwendy's Button Box

message 166: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59911 comments I finished Two Graves. This has got to be my least favourite of the series so far.

I will start the new book in the spin-off series Diablo Mesa later today.

message 167: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19155 comments I hate when you enjoy a series and then run into a blooper of a book. I suppose when someone writes that many it's bound to happen eventually, but it's so disappointing when you're expecting it to be good. Hopefully, Diablo Mesa will be much better.

Christine Hatfield (christinesbookshelves) | 965 comments I’m reading a book called Finding Claire Fletcher by Lisa Regan

Corrie Swanson has a significant role in Two Graves, and I understand she does in the next book as well.

PattyMacDotComma Another one for the kiddies (and grown-ups).
Love Grows Everywhere is a charmer of a small picture book by Barry Timms with some enormous ideas, wonderfully illustrated by Tisha Lee. Diversity and acceptance abound in glorious colour! I want to live there. 😊
Love Grows Everywhere by Barry Timms 5★ My review of Love Grows Everywhere with several of the illustrations

Janice (jamasc) | 59911 comments I finished The Eye of the World. It almost took the whole month to read this chunkster. Of course, the toppler necessitated that it be interrupted.

I will start I Let You Go tomorrow.

PattyMacDotComma Facts and Other Lies: Welcome to the Disinformation Age, by Aussie author Ed Coper, is just as unnerving as you probably gather it is from the title. The current division in many democracies has been caused by bad actors with thousands of automatic bots that set us off down fake rabbit holes. Started with the printing press, escalated to social media.

You may be sent one way, while I'm sent another. CLASH! If democracies crumble, guess what happens next?!

Facts and Other Lies Welcome to the Disinformation Age by Ed Coper 5★ My review of Facts and Other Lies

It's long, but I've included a lot of examples from this terrific book.

Lilisa | 2770 comments I’m trying to read Great Circle but not making much progress. I started out listening but couldn’t focus. I had switch to the ebook yesterday and started all over again.

I’m also with Secrets of the Sprakkar: Iceland's Extraordinary Women and How They Are Changing the World, which I’m enjoying. My 2022 yearlong companion read is The Complete Works of Rabindranath Tagore.

Janice (jamasc) | 59911 comments I finished I Let You Go. I really liked this book even though it deals with some nasty situations.

Next up is An Impartial Witness. I will read it for my themed read, and it also is the second last book needed for my first badge.

message 180: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59911 comments I finished An Impartial Witness for the road trip challenge and the group themed read.

I will start the monthly challenge book tomorrow. I'll be reading A Bad Day for Sunshine. It's the only audiobook I can start just now because all the others are slated for badge 2 of the annual challenge, and I'm on my final badge 1 book in paperback.

message 181: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59911 comments Well, pfshaw! I thought I had A Bad Day for Sunshine on audiobook! I have it on Kindle. Whispersync price for the audiobook is $7.49. I paid $2.00 for the Kindle and the combined total is still less than the sale price.

If I wanted to wait 22 weeks, I could borrow the audiobook through my library.

message 182: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19155 comments Haha... I hate when that happens, Janice.

I just started I Must Betray You for a buddy read and I'm listening to The Four Winds for our group read.

Janice (jamasc) | 59911 comments I did buy the audiobook and will start listening to it today.

How did you liked it? I love Amor Towles's writing. And I really like all the characters so I hope it has a happy ending. But don't tell me, please. :)

PattyMacDotComma The Murder Rule by Dervla McTiernan is a departure from her Irish detective series. This finds a US group trying to rescue wrongly convicted people from Death Row. But were they wrongly convicted?
The Murder Rule by Dervla McTiernan 4★ My review of The Murder Rule

PattyMacDotComma It was such a delight to meet the fantastic Amanda Gorman in the bright children's book by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara. So young (only 24 on the 7th!), so talented, so inspiring. America's first Youth Poet Laureate.

I'm interested to see your thoughts on this one. I also grabbed it from Kindle First.

message 195: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11635 comments Finished Again, Rachel and it's made me remember how much I enjoy Marian Keyes writing. Great to revisit favourite characters 25 years later and do some catching up!

Started The Four Winds.

Janice (jamasc) | 59911 comments I finished my challenge read, A Bad Day for Sunshine.

Tomorrow, I will start Badge 2 with Stillhouse Lake.

message 197: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59911 comments I started Stillhouse Lake early this afternoon and didn't stop until I was finished. How do you define a 5 star read? LOL!

While I'm tempted to start the next book in the series, I'll go with the plan and start Lover Reborn. I must learn what the brothers are up to.

message 198: by PattyMacDotComma (new)

PattyMacDotComma Hurray! Aussie author Adrian Hyland finally gave us a new book! Constable Jesse Redpath is another smart, tough female character from the Northern Territory. She's stepping on the toes of the local Victorian cops, investigating a death at Canticle Creek. Excellent!
Canticle Creek by Adrian Hyland 4.5~5★ My review of Canticle Creek
