Sandra (sanlema) | 11263 comments I'm in the last pages of my current read. I will start then The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and Thunderhead (for the buddy read).

I also started listening to Perfume: The Story of a Murderer, which happened to be much better than I was expecting.

PattyMacDotComma Everyday Magic is hardly everyday, but there's plenty of magic. Jess Kidd has written a delightful book for youngsters, which is fun for grown-ups, too. Orphan, witches, potions, it's all here!
Everyday Magic by Jess Kidd 4★ My review of Everyday Magic

Kristie | 19154 comments I just finished The Golden Couple and I thought it was SO good! I figured out some of the end, but there were enough moving parts to keep me guessing on some of it and the way it was written kept great pacing. If you can accept that the therapist does a lot of investigating, it's a fabulous read. My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I am now finishing up The Four Winds, which I am also enjoying a lot.

Thanks, Christine. :) They are. I just finished The Golden Couple and I'm almost done The Four Winds. Both are very good.

message 210: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59907 comments I finished The Lobotomist's Wife. I was able to fit it into the annual challenge which meant I had to shift plans around.

I will start The Blood Gospel tonight. I'm not really looking forward to it. I bought it as a gift for a friend who enjoyed James Rollings, but she had read it already so I kept it and got her something else. It's the oldest book on my TBR, so it's time to knock it off the list. It will work for the annual challenge as well.

message 211: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59907 comments I finished Lover Reborn yesterday. I have two more books in the series and then I'm going to call it done. It's just the same old, same old. Every book. Same character; different name. Surely the pillow talk would be different?

I will start Immortal for the annual challenge today.

PattyMacDotComma Aussie author Candice Fox has really established herself as a thriller writer, with the new TV series Troppo, set in the North Queensland tropics, based on her first book, Crimson Lake. Her latest, The Chase, finds 600+ prisoners turned loose in the Nevada desert, including those on Death Row. Why? You may well ask. I can see another film prospect here!
The Chase by Candice Fox 4★ My review of The Chase

message 213: by PattyMacDotComma (new)

PattyMacDotComma Canadian author Alice Munro is one of the world's best-loved storytellers. In 2013, she was awarded the Nobel Prize for her work as "master of the contemporary short story". I've enjoyed several, and I just read her 1968 debut, Dance of the Happy Shades. So good.
Dance of the Happy Shades And Other Stories by Alice Munro 4.5★ My review of Dance of the Happy Shades with a link to some stories you can read online

Sandra (sanlema) | 11263 comments My plan was to finish Thunderhead first for the buddy read, but I got tempted and finally started Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind. Only 20 pages in, but so far very good.

message 215: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11630 comments I'm reading Plain Bad Heroines Plain Bad Heroines by Emily M. Danforth .

I have it in my challenge list and I was thinking that it would double for the monthly challenge for the prompt bee on the cover. I was pretty upset to find out it's a wasp! All is not lost though - it will fit the dual timelines one. Also, it's a damned good ;-)

message 216: by Cherie (last edited Mar 14, 2022 11:33AM) (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I finished reading/listening to the group read book, The Four Winds this morning. It was a very emotional story, but worth the read!

I am finally continuing with The Ten Thousand Things. I put it aside to finish some other books that I had started. It is quite different; beautiful, ethereal, and haunting. I still have not figured out where the story is going yet. This book is for my yearly challenge.

I finished the third Jane Hawk series book, The Crooked Staircase. I was reading this story along with Jannene and Dom, my serial killer buddies.

I finally killed off a middle grade reader's trilogy that has been on my series list for too many years to mention. For the finish, The Serpent's Shadow went on way too long, but I enjoyed the action and learning about all of the ancient Egyptian gods.

I started listening to a WWII audiobook taking place on the Isle of Jersey, The Girl from the Channel Islands.

I started reading Fault Lines until the battery on my Easy Reader died. I haven't gotten back to it yet.

On deck from my library, I am looking forward to reading Broken by Daniel Clay .

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4027 comments I am listening to At the Existentialist Café: Freedom, Being, and Apricot Cocktails, pretty good if you're into existentialism. Love the narration too!

Reading The Man Who Was Afraid,

The Enchanted April (nice easy read),

Mafia Queens Of Mumbai: Stories Of Women From The Ganglands (real life stories),

The Moth Presents All These Wonders: True Stories about Facing the Unknown (real life stories).

message 221: by Laura (Lclwags) (new)

Laura (Lclwags) (lclwags) | 698 comments I'm reading The Four Winds and Maus II: A Survivor's Tale: And Here My Troubles Began. Apparently I'm ok with depressing myself. These are both such great books, but they have heavy content!

On a lighter note, I'm slowly introducing my husband to the wizarding world. We're reading Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. He's not much of a reader, unless it's related to his work or hobbies, but he agreed to read these with me periodically. It's taken 4 years to get this far!

message 224: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59907 comments I'm on a streak. The last few books have been 3 stars. I finished Immortal for the road trip.

I've started Magpie Murders. Hopefully it will be better.

message 225: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11630 comments I'm finding Plain bad Heroines a bit of a struggle! The narration is definitely an aquired taste and the story meanders a lot. I'm nearly at the half way mark and I just can't decide whether to bail - HELP!!!

message 226: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59907 comments I hate being in that situation, Margo.

message 227: by Christine (new)

Christine Hatfield (christinesbookshelves) | 965 comments I’m reading a book called The Boy from the Woods by Harlan Coben

message 228: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19154 comments I want to read that one, Christine. I have it on my list of books to read, but haven't gotten to it yet. Let us know what you think of it when you finish.

message 229: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11630 comments I'm happy to say I finished Plain Bad Heroines and I can't remember ever being so relieved to finish a book!

Moving on to Cinderella Is Dead

message 230: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19154 comments Hope your next read is better, Margo.

message 231: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59907 comments I finished The Blood Gospel. I went into it thinking I would feel similarly to Margo's sentiments about her book. I purchased the book for a friend who loves James Rollin's books, only she already had a copy. So I put it in my bookcase and dragged my heels about reading it because I'm not a fan. It wasn't a horrible story, and there was enough action to keep me turning pages.

I will start The Prayer of the Night Shepherd later today.

Sharon Hopper | 2423 comments I am reading Thunderheadand C.J. Box’s newest, Shadows Reel. I am almost done with it and am going to start The Lake Vyrnwy Killings. I really enjoy that series.

Janice (jamasc) | 59907 comments Oops! I can't read The Prayer of the Night Shepherd yet. I need to read the preceding book, The Lamp of the Wicked first.

Janice (jamasc) | 59907 comments I finished Magpie Murders this afternoon. Diamond painting is certainly helping me topple my audiobooks.

I'm not sure what I'll read next. I'll have to look over my challenge spreadsheet.

message 237: by PattyMacDotComma (new)

PattyMacDotComma I just finished the first of Robert Dugoni's Tracy Crosswhite series, My Sister's Grave. Twenty years after her sister disappeared, detective Tracy Crosswhite is told they've found her bones. Mixed feelings about this one.

PattyMacDotComma I finally started the Brother Cadfael historical mystery series by Ellis Peters ( aka Edith Pargeter ), and I grew quite fond of this canny, medieval monk in Book 1, A Morbid Taste for Bones. I will be reading more!

Janice (jamasc) | 59907 comments I think I'm going to topple more ancients from my audiobook shelf. I want to keep a balance of audiobook/print ratio in my challenge reading. So, that means Lover at Last will be started today.

message 241: by Jan Mc (new)

Jan Mc (mcfitzsatx) | 69 comments I finished the audiobook of The Ballerinas for a book club read and didn't enjoy it. My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Almost finished with the fantasy The Great Contagion, with a cat as the MC.

message 242: by PattyMacDotComma (new)

PattyMacDotComma I really enjoyed The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro, about a super-professional butler who knows how to inspect the silver polishing but, sadly, knows nothing at all about people. Very touching. 1989 Booker Prize Winner.
The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro 5★ My review of The Remains of the Day

PattyMacDotComma Happy 88th birthday on March 25 to Gloria Steinem, whose story of becoming a feminist activist and icon is told by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara. These "Little People BIG DREAMS" picture books are for children, but I am meeting so many interesting people myself!

Janice (jamasc) | 59907 comments I finished Lover at Last and will start the next book in that series The King. That will be my last book in the series. I've been spending more time listening to my audiobooks and it's nice to have been toppling titles from my TBR. These books were added a few years back so it's nice to get them dusted and done.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments My granddaughter and I have been listening to The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto. It has been a beautiful story.

I finally started Broken by Daniel Clay .
I never would have picked up this book, except for the cover.
My library served up a cop for me, so I am obliged to read it.
