PattyMacDotComma | 922 comments I love it when a favourite author is convinced to continue a story. Lying Beside You is celebrated Aussie mystery writer Michael Robotham's excellent addition to the Cyrus Haven (& Evie Cormac) series. But you can pick it up and enjoy the suspense and action straight away, because Robotham will fill you in.

I LOVE that series! Every single book was awesome, in my humble opinion. I binge-listened to it one book directly after the other.

Finished reading From the Abyss: Weird Fiction, 1907-1945 by DK Broster, with stories spanning the period from the 1900s to the early 1940s. I was given a copy by the good people at Handheld Press, who published this book along with many other really good ones.

Reading and very much enjoying Devil in a Blue Dress by Walter Mosley, so I foresee many of his books landing on my shelves in the near future. So good!!

Fox and O'Hare #3. Light fun mystery/adventure. There's a plot hole every other page but hey, whatever. Perfect for the pool. 3 stars.

James Best (jamesbest) | 299 comments Now starting THE AXEMAN (originally published in 2014 as THE AXEMAN’s JAZZ) by Ray Celestin. This is the first book in his City Blues Quartet and it was nominated for both the 2014 New Blood Dagger Award and the ITW Thriller Award for Best First Novel.

The storyline revolves around The Axeman, a real-life serial killer who was never caught or identified, who terrorized the city of New Orleans back in 1919.

I'm really enjoying it so far, so it looks like I will be trying to hunt down the next three books in the quartet.

I enjoyed the trilogy, though the 2nd one is a bit longer than maybe it should have been. Not a classic, I think, but entertaining. I especially liked the back and forth between the women.

Woman Reading (is away exploring) | 286 comments A Taste for Poison Eleven Deadly Molecules and the Killers Who Used Them by Neil Bradbury A Taste for Poison: Eleven Deadly Molecules and the Killers Who Used Them.

Neil Bradbury wrote an interesting blend of hard science and accounts of poisoners from the 19th through 21st centuries and sprinkled them with allusions to writers such as Agatha Christie. I got a kick out of reading about the assassinations of Soviet defectors as I could see their influence on one my favorite espionage novelist's stories.
