I loved this book!
The last story in Golden Age Detective Stories is one by Cornell Woolrich, which has prompted me to pull out Darkness at Dawn: Early Suspense Classics
. I've barely started the first story, which has the snicker-inspiring title, "Death Sits in the Dentist's Chair." But I generally enjoy Woolrich and the collection includes a couple I've read before, "Dark Melody of Madness" (a.k.a. "Papa Benjamin") and "Kiss of the Cobra."

I requested it last year but was rejected, so I was happy to buy it for myself recently.
Here is my 4 star review of this solid thriller: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

The series features newly commissioned black police officers Lucius Boggs and Tommy Smith trying to do their jobs while working for a department and a city that is rife with the Jim Crow attitudes of the deep South.

I have a copy of that book -- I didn't realize it was a series. I'll have to move it closer to the top of the tbr.

Important and readable book. 4.5 stars

The author is an American who frequently visits France and he books have been translated into French. The book is set in Paris, a few months after 9-11.

I love that series
I'm currently reading Havana Red by Leonardo Padura which is set in Havana and written by a Cuban.
Currently into Dirty Bird Blues by Clarence Major. So far it's pretty great.
Once again there's a clog in notifications coming my way. arrghghgh

Sorry to hear you haven't been feeling well, but at least you've had a great start to your 2022 reading year!

The K Team private detective agency investigates a cold case involving two missing persons.
Fun addition to the series. 3 stars

The first book in the series, DARKTOWN, was an excellent read. And I am now looking to track down the third book, MIDNIGHT ATLANTA, at my local bookstores or libraries.

Finished reading
Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail by Cheryl Strayed
Amazing book and will add to my favorites list Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor E. Frankl

Gabriel Allon is one of my all time favorite spy master. Enjoy the book and the series.

Thanks Christine. Hope you enjoy your reading too.

Thanks so very much for mentioning this book, Patty, I thought I had all of Berkeley's novels (including those published under his pen name Francis Iles), but it seems I don't have this one. Small wonder -- it was originally published under the name of A. Monmouth Platts and somehow I missed it.

I loved The Sheltering Sky. I wish someone would remake the film -- it was awful, although it did have a brief guest appearance by the author.

Oh, very cool!
Oh, very cool!

I'm still mulling over the book. Paul Bowles was obviously a good writer, however I found it difficult to warm to either Port or Kit. It was my first book by the author, which I added to my read list as one of the literary figures highlighted by Paul Theroux in The Pillars of Hercules: A Grand Tour of the Mediterranean.

Quite honestly, I didn't care for the characters in the book but both storyline & writing are incredible. I'm one of those weirdo people who doesn't have to care for characters to really enjoy a book. Have you seen the film?

I read those books quite a while ago and I've always wondered why they were never adapted for tv.
