Currently reading? Just finished? 2022

Okay, I give in! This conversation convinced me that it’s a To-Read book and hopefully soon.

Sadly not my cup of tea. You can find my review here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I also finished You Never Said Goodbye by Luca Veste

A lot of violence in this story, but an interesting book. You can find my review here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Furthermore I finished Freckles by Cecilia Ahern

A lovely uplifting story! You can find my review here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

The Betrayal of Anne Frank: A Cold Case Investigation by Rosemary Sullivan

An older black woman relies on the support of her lifelong friends when she experiences a tragedy in her life.
Author McMillan is good at depicting aging and loss. Lots of humor as well, which lightens the mood. 4 stars

I requested this from Netgalley, so we'll see how that goes.

By Peter Straub? Great, scary book.
I set aside Darkness At Dawn for now and picked up Velvet Was the Night. Slow going so far, though maybe more to do with the reader and his time commitments than with the novel.

Attorney Dismas Hardy gets involved when a released prisoner is murdered.
Good police procedural. 3.5 stars

This gives Russell the excuse to travel across Europe to see what is happening on the ground. It also makes him a target for recruitment by the OSS, SOE, MI6, KGB, Abwehr, and Gestapo.
The six books in his series are named for the major train stations in Berlin, which play a role in each novel’s plotline.
I enjoyed Downing’s series when I read it some years ago and collected all six novels in hardcover for my permanent library. Glad to see he has returned to it, if only for a prequel.

Butch Karp #8, OK to read as a stand-alone. Butch takes up the defense of a friend, falsely accused of malfeasance while his wife Marlene takes up armed defense of abused wives. Wonderful exciting mystery/thriller entry in the Karp series. 5 stars, highly recommended.
back from Seattle now, and for the most part we stayed up way too late with family so believe it or not I got very little reading done. So unlike me, but it's been two years since we saw everyone so I can always catch up.
Finished Dirty Bird Blues by Clarence Major
Still working on Waiting for the End of the World by RB Russell and because I packed that book by mistake instead of putting it in my carry on, I started another book, Songs of the Northern Seas (ed.) Mark Beech.

Reminiscent of Janet Evanovich, started out well but later plot points either didn't hold together or were just too contrived. Enjoyable but not great.

The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and Other Stories by Robert Louis Stevenson
Rating: 3 stars

Plenty of crime in this one.

My only hiccup with the audiobook so far is that if I were reading a physical book, I could go back and reread some things where the details get a little muddled, if you are driving and not able to listen 100% to the book, sometimes you can get the characters mixed up.

I'm looking forward to trying this series.

A decent mystery. My 3.5 star review:

I've finished Waiting for the End of the World by R.B. Russell. For the longest time I really thought it was going to be a crime novel, but then everything changed. It was one of those BAM books that hits you in the face by the time you figure out what's actually happening.
Currently continuing with Songs of the Northern Seas, published by Egaeus Press; I'm somewhere around the halfway mark and very much enjoying it.
Moving back into the mystery realm with A Puzzle for Fools: A Peter Duluth Mystery by Patrick Quentin. All I can say is that I hope it's better than the other book I read by this author, Puzzle for Players, which actually made me yawn.

I've heard good things about that one.

Oh yeah!!! At first I'm like "well, this is really good but where are we going?" Then all of a sudden it's like I got smacked in the face and I actually yelled a very loud "wtf!" and it was an entirely different story. I should have known after reading his Ghosts that things were going to take a most unexpected turn.

Nope, in fact I stopped watching tv in 2020, but have decided that I need to tune in again. I have a list of movies and series I want to watch, so might add The Sheltering Sky.
