Meg (makeli2) | 2322 comments I have the first in her Home to Ireland series on the tbr this month, Murder in Galway. I've read five so far in her Irish Village series, have enjoyed them all.

Alice | 3858 comments I read Murder in Connemara Murder in Connemara by Carlene O'Connor . I like her Irish Village series much better. This book seemed very chaotic. It was difficult to connect with the plot or characters.  The Irish Village series makes you feel more like you are in Ireland. Can't love them all.

I finished Murder in an Irish Village this week. I had some problems with it, but overall not a bad start to a series — and I correctly guessed whodunnit.

Partly owing to the time of year, this book and another I am working through this month, The Celtic Quest in Art and Literature, I found myself in the mood for Irish/Celtic music and have now watched/listened to “Celtic Woman: A New Journey” several times.

Meg (makeli2) | 2322 comments I'm so behind with the youtube sensation. I catch something now and then thanks to shared links but otherwise I'm such a laggard. Thanks for the Celtic Woman link; I think I'm up to a dozen now, 😄

“Thanks for the Celtic Woman link...”

You’re welcome! I’ve seen this concert aired on PBS a few times, but it’s a much more pleasurable experience when not interrupted by their pledge drive, which is when they always show it. I was happy to find it on YouTube. 😃

Now I’m listening to The Irish Tenors, also first seen on PBS and found on YouTube, before I go to bed.

Zermeena | 347 comments I finished listening to Murder In Galway. It was a good start to a series. This is the first book I've read by this author and I plan to listen to the next book in this series. I enjoyed meeting the characters. Although I did find Galway as setting confusing. It seemed to be a city and a village at the same time. Did I miss something?

I didn't read this book and I'm assuming it's not set in the USA but in the US at least the difference between a city and a village is mainly based on the number of the population so you could really say either. At my work I regularly get things addressed to the Village of Madeira even though we are a city.

Linda — Both series by O’Connor are set in Ireland.

As for Galway, here’s what I found online:

Galway, a harbour city on Ireland’s west coast, sits where the River Corrib meets the Atlantic Ocean. The city’s hub is 18th-century Eyre Square, a popular meeting spot surrounded by shops and traditional pubs that often offer live Irish folk music. Nearby, stone-clad cafes, boutiques and art galleries line the winding lanes of the Latin Quarter, which retains portions of the medieval city walls. ― Google

Population as of 2016: 79,934

Having never been there, I cannot speak with authority on how the city is set up, but sometimes a larger city will have an older section which may be referred to as “old town” or “the village.” And sometimes locals might refer to their home city as a village, when in fact it is much larger than a village.

It is also possible for there to be both a town/village and a city of the same name. For example, in Wisconsin there is both the city and town of Wisconsin (though the town sections are in the process of being annexed into either the city of Madison or city of Fitchburg). Down near the Illinois border there is both the city of Beloit and adjacent town of Beloit, which can be confusing. In 2017 there was talk of the town incorporating into a village and changing its name, but I haven’t heard anything more on that.

Amy D. | 48 comments I just finished Murder in an Irish Village. I completed the book by both reading the paper version, and listening to the audio book. I actually liked the blend of the two versions, because when I was reading the paper version, I could still "hear" the narrator in my head, which was enjoyable because the accent is different than my own.

I liked the story, in particular the family, and already on planning on continuing in the series.

Meg (makeli2) | 2322 comments I finished Murder in an Irish Bookshop (Irish Village Mystery #7) by Carlene O'Connor Murder in an Irish Bookshop a few days ago; it's the 7th in the Irish Village series. It was a good one! It really brought out one of the things that I appreciate about these books, and that is the fact that Siobhan's fiance, who is also her Garda boss, appreciates her insights into their cases (and life decisions). There are no put-downs and no one-upmanship.

The newest one came out last month and it's on my buy-soon list.
