February Shelf is cats

Are you a Cat person or Dog person? Do you have a cat as pets?
What do you think of Cats in fiction? Any favourites?

As much as I like cats, I'm more of a dog person. Only ever had dogs as pets ;)

Only these are on my TBR (of all 25 pages!)

The Wildings (The Wildings #1)
The Life and Opinions of the Tomcat Murr
Cat in the Dark (Joe Grey #4)

message 3: by Coralie (new)

Coralie | 1658 comments That's three more books than there are on my TBR.

Marina (sonnenbarke) | 1513 comments Ooooh, I do so love cats! Unfortunately, I don't have any pets, but I always make sure to pet and play with my parents' cat when I visit them :) I like dogs, but I'm definitely more of a cat person.

Tien, I couldn't finish The Life and Opinions of the Tomcat Murr, but I will try again sometime. I guess it just wasn't the right moment for it.

Will come back with my potential list as soon as I have time!

I am a dog person...very much so. And, I am not particularly fond of cats, since one bit me in the dark when I was young. Yet, they like me. Go figure!

Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats (planned for JRI 5 - poetry)

Firestar's Quest (on my New Series shelf)

The Cat Who Smelled a Rat (planned for a past season in another group) - However, I use these books as quick reads when I need a cat book. Not reading in any particular order.

Lending a Paw (on my New Series shelf and planned for a current challenge in another group)

Sabriel (planned for JRI 4 and another group)

Monstress, Vol. 1: Awakening (planned for another group's challenge in the past)

These are the books on my TBR in the first 10 pages of the list. I will probably read the ones for current challenges in this group first.

Lisette (illusie) | 3233 comments I like cats, but I'm allergic to them. I'm more of a dog person. I don't have any pets now.

Like Coralie I haven't got any books in the 25 pages on my TBR list lol

In another group that I recently joined they are doing 2 cat themed buddy read in february. I'll probably read one of these
The Travelling Cat Chronicles
The Last House on Needless Street Sneak Peek

As for recommendations
- A Man Called Ove.
- Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
- Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
- The Aeronaut's Windlass

Marina (sonnenbarke) | 1513 comments Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats is a cute little book, Bea :)

message 9: by Kristina Simon (new)

Kristina Simon (kristinasimon) | 801 comments I'm definitely a cat person and am partial to solid black ones. I'm currently at the beck and call of two mini-panthers, both of whom strayed into our lives and just stayed. They recognize a good situation when they see one!

Just this morning I started feeding a stray ginger tom, though. At one time, he had cat parents and only came to visit us once and awhile, much to the annoyance of our permanent feline residents. Lately, he's been sleeping in the corner of our yard more and more. And, he's starting to lose weight, hence the feeding. We'll see what happens there....

As for cats in books:
Bea - I thought Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats was charming. I never got to see the musical Cats while it was on Broadway. I'm sure I would have loved it, though!
Lusie - The Travelling Cat Chronicles is one of my all-time favorite books. I hope you enjoy it!

I have a couple of options:
- I already have The Dalai Lama's Cat planned for another challenge, so I'm hoping to get to that.
- I could continue the Cat in the Stacks series by Miranda James with book #2: Classified as Murder. I enjoyed the 1st book in the series.
- I've been meaning to start Lilian Jackson Braun's The Cat Who series for years, but haven't gotten around to it. Maybe next month!

There's a bunch of other cat related cozy mysteries on my list, but I'm hoping to get to one or more of the ones above.

That's okay, Tien. I didn't find any, lol.

I am both a cat and a dog person and have had both as pets at different times. I love the energy of a dog, but also the laid back aloofness of a cat. We had a Tortie for along time and I miss her. I have been thinking of getting a kitten lately.

I found The Ocean at the End of the Lane on the cats shelf, which just happens to be on my TBR and fits one of my UNO cards in Moving Mountains, so I am going to go with that one.

message 12: by Meg (new)

Meg (megscl) | 1073 comments Well i nominated this one, so if course i love cats! I have an 18 year old kitty.

I Am a Cat has been on my tbr for ages, but it's very intimidating
The Lion in the Living Room: How House Cats Tamed Us and Took Over the World might be an easier option for me

For recommendations, Like others have said, The Travelling Cat Chronicles is absolutely superb

I also have to read Slinky Malinki to my daughter several times a day, but i don't think i can count that

message 13: by Lisette (new)

Lisette (illusie) | 3233 comments Thanks for the tips! I'll read The Travelling Cat Chronicles

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 1279 comments I like cats. I have had dogs. My mom is allergic to cats. I am going to try to get Murder Past Due or The Cat Who Ate Danish Modern

I'm also intrigued by The Travelling Cat Chronicles. And it will work for Read the World, too.

Marie (UK) (mazza1) | 601 comments This is not my favourite choice but I have The Cat Who Saved Books and should get round to it in February

message 18: by Beverly (new)

Beverly Reid | 120 comments I like cats, but have a dog!! I also searched the shelf and found none on my TBR. I've found two titles available at my library and I'll try one of them.

The Cat Who Came to Breakfast
The Cat Who Wasn't There

message 19: by Christina (new)

Christina (cmb1987) | 161 comments Hahahaha, cat person or dog person. I'll pet anything that won't actively kill me. I'm an emergency vet tech of 13 years, a professional full time pet sitter, and a foster for a major cat rescue. I have 3 dogs, 6 cats, and anywhere between 5 and 30 foster kittens at any given time. My house is a circus.

For this month I'm going to read Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World. Also on my list is The Starless Sea though I don't know how cats play in to that one and I'm not sure I'll get to it. But here's hoping.

message 20: by Brandi (new)

Brandi I am definitely more of a dog person than a cat person, but probably more accurate, a fish person. I'll pet my son's cat as I walk by, but am by no means upset when she completely ignores me.

These books on my tbr have been shelved as "cat":
Sabriel by Garth Nix
The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman
Will My Cat Eat My Eyeballs? And other Questions about Dead Bodies by Caitlin Doughty
The Subtle Knife by Philip Pullman
The Midnight Library by Matt Haig
Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman
The Last House on Needless Street by Catriona Ward
The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune and
Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins

Not sure how many I will get a chance to read this month, but will be working in as many as I can.

message 21: by Rosemary (new)

Rosemary | 948 comments I will definitely be reading The Cat Who Knew Shakespeare in February!
I have some others in the series on my TBR, but I think I will only get to one because of all the books for all the other games :)

message 22: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1224 comments I will read Night Magic - it has a cat character named Puff (after the Magic Dragon).

message 24: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 1385 comments I found a couple of cat shifter books that are tagged already on my tbr, so I may try them. But from the first few pages of the shelf, I think I'll read Ghostly Paws. Also, Lion in the Valley (Amelia Peabody) is tagged a couple times, I think. That's always a fun one for me.

Ghostly Paws (Mystic Notch Cozy Mystery, #1) by Leighann Dobbs Lion in the Valley (Amelia Peabody, #4) by Elizabeth Peters
