Helen Gould (helenclairegould) | 130 comments I haven't used D2D but a friend has. They post your e-book on a number of websites, and can also arrange audiobooks and print versions. My friend has been very happy with the services they provided her.

Nick Duberley | 55 comments Thanks Helen. I'm going to use them for my new book,

I ran foul of the two-step verification process when setting up a new KDP account, so looked for alternatives.

I'll report back on how things go for me at D2D.

Nick

Hailey Sawyer | 721 comments Hello Nick. I published my debut novel, Kenji and Yuki: A Japanese Tale, via Draft2Digital and I have to say, I've been really impressed with my experience!

I think a big reason why is because of how they make everything so easy to use and understand.

I also found that, whenever I had an issue or question, they were really quick to respond and I felt their responses proved helpful every single time. Sometimes, they'll even adjust things for you automatically, like prices for specific territories in my case.

I also didn't have to pay anything to use Draft2Digital's services, including the services involving formatting and converting.

I think the only thing that I feel would make it even better would be to add an option to add an acknowledgements page when selecting what kind of front/end matter you want for your book (i.e dedication page, about the author page, etc).

Also, if you want to use the print on demand feature at this time, you'll have to sign up for their waitlist to take part in the beta. I think this will help give a better idea as to what I'm talking about:

Overall, I think Draft2Digital is a wonderful platform and if you're looking for an alternative for KDP, look no further than Draft2Digital!

I hope you find this helpful.

Hi Hailey,
Thanks very much for that.

You confirm the impression I have formed about D2D that they have got the e-publishing side oi this well in hand.

Having done some checking, the part I am not sure about is the marketing. I know Amazon, via KDP, has the majority of the e-book market and uses various sales methods to promote books issued via KDP. What I am interested in is if I use D2D and ask them to handle the Amazon distribution of my e-book, whether the book will get any sales push. I think the answer is probably No and that I will have to figure out ways of drawing potential reader's attention to it.

The print on demand side of this is going to be put on the back burner. I don't have the time to sort it out now, but when I do get to it, I expect I will go with a different company entirely. Possibly a UK based one - my book is written in a PG Wodehouse-esq style, which may not have much appeal in other countries. (It may not have much appeal in this country either, of course) :-)

All the best Nick

As far as I know Amazon will only help you sell your eBook once you have grabbed their attention with large sales - which you will have to market for yourself. This is where they will then start sending out recommendation emails. I doubt Amazon will treat a D2D Published author differently.

Hi Jane,
I hope I'll be happy enough on D2D - I'm not someone who likes rushing things and as I'm retired and have a pension I do not need to earn a living from writing.

I'll report back on how D2D goes for me, and hopefully that will help inform others' decisions.

Nick
