Heather | 8548 comments Walk through the 'Starry Night' with Van Gogh

Does anyone remember this? The thread was first opened and the exhibit was first discovered in March 2020. (The whole thread and comments are found in the folder 'For Your Viewing Pleasure' https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... if anyone wants to look back at that)
I had come across it somehow, it was touring Europe and I saw an announcement for it in France. "Maîtres du dessin européen du XVI e au XX e siècle: La Collection Georges Pébereau"
The traveling exhibit is over now so the site is no longer there, but that is the name of it showing in Paris.

Oh! First, let me tell you what it is! LOL

I will post the one now showing in Salt Lake City. Obviously the show in France is over, though there are still cities in Europe still showing it (Antwerp being one of them...Dirk?) I did happen to see it in SLC, Utah, USA. I'll get to that.

This is the site to show you what I'm talking about.

I posted the site that I saw because the showing in France is obviously over now and the website is down. But this gives you an idea.

Heather | 8548 comments Well, I wanted to revive this exhibit for
one, because we have a folder in which we can post exhibits specifically for others to see what they are going to see and
two, we won't have to be confused in which folder to post our news. I hope this folder does help! I don't see that it has really been used since I brought it up a few months ago, but I'm one who had forgotten about it, also. Maybe nobody has had any news about new exhibits or art announcements. But I do have some updated news about this older post so that's why I revived it here.

Heather | 8548 comments When I was looking for the exhibit and I found the one in Salt Lake City where I saw it, I see that some others, both in Europe and other areas around the world have called it different things. I just want to post the different names and a few of the different cities where it it is or has been:

"The Lume" Indianapolis, Indiana, USA
"Collecting Van Gogh: Helene Kröller-Müller’s Passion for Vincent’s Art Tokyo, Japan
"Through Vincent’s Eyes: Van Gogh and His Sources" Columbus, Ohio USA
"Van Gogh and the Olive Groves" Amsterdam, Netherlands
"Van Gogh in America" Detroit, Michigan USA

Heather | 8548 comments Well, I already posted the link to the exhibit that I visited in November. It was amazing! An experience of a lifetime!

When I saw it advertised exactly a year and a half before in France where I first opened that other thread, I was so jealous of those living in Europe who would get to see an exhibit like that. Then to see it was touring in the USA next, then to see that it was coming to Salt Lake City which is about 30 miles south of where I live, I was ecstatic! The one with whom I wanted to see it most was my mom. I wanted to treat her to this chance. She really likes art but doesn't really know much about any of it. She just knows what she likes to look at and what she doesn't care for, that's it. But tickets were out of my price range, I was so disappointed!! But I emailed her the link and told her about it and she treated me. :) She's just awesome!
I'll just share a few pictures.

This is a dark room (obviously!) that one enters and the lights flow around it, usually making waterfall colors, then they turn into his profile if you can see it here.
Sometimes one has to be told that this is a picture of his profile in lights to actually see it, but...it is!

Zoe Disigny (zoedisigny) | 101 comments Hi Heather! So funny you posted this. I just went to see the Immersive van Gogh Exhibit in L.A. in December and wrote about it in my newsletter. Here's the link to my newsletter if anyone is interested in my experience. https://mailchi.mp/25db42c26a31/for-l...

You know what I'm talking about, Joseph. Do you plan on attending?

Barb Wright | 30 comments Thanks, Zoe and Heather. I have seen multimedia art exhibits before and enjoyed the different experiences they give. I would go to this one if I were not snowed in and house bound. So I will enjoy nature at her finest.

Ruth I think I'll skip these. They seem kind of gimmicky to me.

Heather | 8548 comments Oh dang! I wrote my response and it was almost ready to post then I got disrupted and my phone logged me out and erased everything!

Anyway, as I was saying…
I’m sorry for the latent response, Ruth. This one’s for you.
I’m not sure what you mean by “gimmicky”, would you mind expounding on that a little bit? Of course, you totally have your freedom to choose what to attend and not to attend. But I heard there is another one going around, a Monet(?), and I would be curious as to your point of view about these things. Why you say they are “gimmicky”, because I would much rather put my all-too-little money in a piggy bank to attend a museum than attend one of these if you have persuaded me.

I do know that at the gift shop at the end, everything was marked up about 300% than its its value would be on Amazon or even cheaply made on Etsy.
