LibraryCin | 11702 comments Are the book pages messed up for anyone else?

I have had to borrow a computer for a few days as mine may have died. Looking in on this borrowed PC and the book pages (and the home page) are very blank and boring and appear to be the new pages.

Has anyone else been forced to this yet? I'm trying to change a book to "currently reading" and it's giving me an error message... :-(

LibraryCin | 11702 comments So it seems I can change it to "currently reading" on the book results page (with the same button as before), but on the new book pages (with a new button), that's where it's giving me an error message.

LibraryCin | 11702 comments Also don't know how to change a book's cover (i.e. edition) from the new book page. Booooooo

LibraryCin | 11702 comments Well, since I haven't looked at this for so long... (I also found where I can change it back and provide feedback( again) if I want.

Anyway, I haven't looked at this for so long, but I am happy to see that I can click to see "more shelves" and it looks like I can see all of them! That's better!

i.e.
"Top shelves for Rose in Bloom Showing 2,501-2,564 of 2,573 "

Ok, almost all of them. That's the last page, anyway. Page 26.

LibraryCin | 11702 comments I think I'll not change it for now. Hopefully I'll be on this borrowed computer only until the weekend. Assuming we will eventually be forced to these new pages, maybe I'll get a bit more used to them. (And hopefully I'll be able to find how to change the cover... at the very least, I'll likely send them some feedback - again.)

Joy D | 10127 comments I really don't like the new format. It is a huge step backward. I have provided feedback, but not much has changed. I expect it is all being driven by wanting to create a standard look and feel across all platforms/devices, which means the lowest common denominator will prevail (phones, unfortunately). I hope they listen to feedback but so far, I am not impressed.

Theresa | 15582 comments I haven't looked at the Beta in ages. I definitely commented several times. Maybe I should look at them again.

I have noticed when using desktop version on my tablet that when I click someone's book linked in the comment it takes me to the new page. I just screen back and search for the book in desktop because I can't stand the new format.

Is there anyone in PBT or any other group you are active in on GR where members like it? All I hear are complaints.

Cindy, I hate it too, but you can get to the other covers: Under the page #'s and pub. date there is link "more details" Click on that on more editions appear.

Thank you for this!

Good thought - this really makes sense.

Theresa | 15582 comments Even if the goal is uniform platform across all devices at the lowest common denominator controlling, and the phone app being that denominator, most social media apps are far more sophisticatedthan desktop, and tablets use same app as phone. Take FB. The updated FB app on my phone is superiorto the computer FB - more sophisticated, more options, than compter FB. So even though I prefer accessing media sites using a real keyboard, I am the opposite with FB. I avoid it on laptop.

Yes, but FB is known for their technology and programming. GR not so much. (Sometimes FB is controversial but they know what they are doing). I used to manage technology projects - the quality is widely variable. I am not saying it cannot be done. I am saying it is not being done. At least not yet.

Agreed.

GR is owned by Amazon and I personally think that Amazon does a crap job of its reading app and content management either on devices or via website. Especially when compared with Nook/B & N which isn't close to perfect but IMHO far better than Kindle/Amazon.

For whatever reasons, Amazon sucks at these apps.

I agree with you. They also do a poor job on their website where I want to purchase e-books in the category of Literary Fiction. You would think they would want you to be able to easily find something to buy, but they are more interested in selling you their "sponsored" books that I have no interesting in reading and will never buy no matter how often they serve them up to me.

OMG Yes! Totally! When I want print books, I pretty much order online from my local indies, or from used booksites. Ebooks I mostly do on Nook.
