Christina T (crysteena73) | 180 comments Good news! I managed to finish my PRN book. I'm on my Kindle with the stupid GR app and I'm having issues copying and pasting and I can't post book links like I can with the web. So, I'll post my review for How to Flirt With a Naked Werewolf as soon as I get home from work tomorrow. Plus I'm interested in seeing what picture Lauren posted....stupid app LOL.

message 154: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) Excellent, Christina!

Yes, that app needs a lot of tweeting. If only GR would stop messing with unnecessary changes to the site such as this new ridiculous follow author nonsense and make useful updates *sigh*

Lauren (laurenjberman) Week 6: S is for ...

One Bad Apple (Orchard, #1) by Sheila Connolly

Finished: March 30th, 2015
Rating: 3 Stars

Review: I'm relatively new to cozy mysteries and I've read some really great ones. Unfortunately, this one doesn't quite cut it. Even though the story is very readable and the heroine is quite engaging, there is very little tension or suspense and the ultimate revelation of the killer is anti-climactic. The characters are not fleshed out well and the small town vibe that I love so much is missing. Not sure that I'll continue.

Nici (queennici102) | 697 comments For shifters I read Kicking It (Alex Craft, #2.5; Chicagoland Vampires, #8.25) by Faith Hunter and i finished it on March 26 and I give it five stars. I really wanted to read this for the Chloe Neill story, but really enjoyed all the other stories as well. I will certainly be looking into those authors.

Christina T (crysteena73) | 180 comments So sorry I haven't been able to get on my laptop for a few days. I'm glad they updated the GR app but it still has much to be desired. I would love if when I clicked on the number of new replies it would actually take you to them instead of dumping you at the first page and having to have you scroll down and click more replies. This is a big pain for most of my groups because you can only see 50 replies at a time so if there is a longer thread, say 500 replies, we have to scroll down and click 10 times to see the newer stuff. Such a pain. Anyway, I am still working on my shifter book but should be done tonight. Here is my review for PNR...

Shelf:PNR
How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf (Naked Werewolf, #1) by Molly Harper by Molly Harper
Finished: 3/26/15

Rating: ★★★★

Review: This is my second Molly Harper book and all I can say is that I'm a fan. This book managed to be cute and fun with a little bit of mystery. My only complaint world be that it read almost like a chick-lit whereas the romance isn't as important as Mo establishing herself in the town of Grundy. I will definitely read the second book in this series.

Christina T (crysteena73) | 180 comments For the Abs of Steel I'll read The Unleashing (Call of Crows, #1) by Shelly Laurenston

Lauren (laurenjberman) Christina T wrote: "we have to scroll down and click 10 times to see the newer stuff. Such a pain."

On the iPhone app, you can click click the arrow that it in the menu bar and it will reverse the order of posts so you get the newest first. The problem with this is that if there are 10 new ones, you get #10 at the top :0(

Lauren (laurenjberman) Week 5: Shifters

Tiger Magic (Shifters Unbound, #5) by Jennifer Ashley

Finished: April 2nd, 2015
Rating: 4 Stars

Review: A sweet addition to the series. Tiger and Carly are incredible together. Carly is openminded and loyal to a fault. Her love, trust and acceptance of him despite his fearsome visage is heartwarming. That said, the ease and speed with which she accepts Tiger and the other shifters into her life does require a certain suspension of disbelief, but that goes without saying given the paranormal genre. Glad I didn't give up on the series with book #3.

Shelf: Shifter
Hungry Like the Wolf (SWAT, #1) by Paige Tyler by Paige Tyler
Finished 4/2/15
Rating: ★★★
Review: This is the second book I've read by Tyler and I'm not in love with her writing style. It has a rawness to it that isn't appealing to me. There is a lot of focus on the sexual aspect of the book but not nearly enough on the romance part. The lust factor overshadows most of the book, I think. With this particular book I found that I hated the heroine so much. She turned TSTL (too stupid to live) right out of the gate and despite her being a professional investigative journalist her constant lusting over the man she was investigating compromised her integrity in my eyes. I didn't hate the book though. I find Tyler has really good ideas and her writing style isn't horrible. With more books under her belt it might get a nice polished feel to it and maybe she will be able to balance the romance/suspense/lust in a more believable way. One can hope.

Midwinterblood by Marcus Sedgwick
by Marcus Sedgwick

Finished: 4/4/15
Rating: 4 stars
Review: This one surprised me. I wasn't totally sold on the concept when it was described to me, but I had to read it for book club and gave it a shot. I ended up really liking it! The interwoven stories of Eric and Merle told through seven different points in time were really interesting. Sedgwick's writing style was beautiful and sparing, and I liked the short chapters. It's definitely an odd little book, but the common elements that link each new section kept me guessing as to how everything would fit together at the end. It read almost like a series of legends, but even that isn't a great description. I'm struggling with how to characterize this book but in the end I will just recommend it to anyone looking for something different.

Sweet Revenge (Sin Brothers, #2) by Rebecca Zanetti
Sweet Revenge by Rebecca Zanetti

Finished: April 7
Rating: 4 Stars

Review: A very good sequel. Matt and Laney's romance is intense and steamy, and thankfully avoids the excessive angst trap very well. The ongoing story arc has some very good twists and turns, and I'm looking forward to what happens next.

Nici (queennici102) | 697 comments I finished Jason (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #23) by Laurell K. Hamilton for abs on 4/7/15 and give it three stars. This is one of those series that I should just stop reading but feel like i can't. I liked the book, but it was basically one or two big sex scenes, like the whole book, without much plot at all. Now, I am into erotica and all that, but i thought an anita blake might have some vampire killing in it. I was wrong. Do we have a new shelf? and what is our updated list looking like?

How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf (Naked Werewolf, #1) by Molly Harper

Finished: 4/9/15
Rating: 4 stars
Review: This was a very funny book that had me laughing out loud at parts. Despite her strange upbringing, I did find that Mo accepted Cooper's werewolf state maybe a bit too easily. But I loved how matter of fact they were and how much they joked around about it. The mystery didn't really drive this for me, but Mo's journey to find herself in Grundy made it worth it. I love rural mysteries because of the characters more than the plots anyway.

Nici (queennici102) | 697 comments for the s is for shelf i read Ignite (Defy, #2) by Sara B. Larson and give it four stars. my problem with this book was the same as the book before this in the series, that there were many places were they could go more in depth into the story then what they do. I know it's probably because it is young adult. However, overall, it is a good story. Finished 4/9

Murder of Crows (The Others, #2) by Anne Bishop
Finished 4/10/15
Rating: ★★★★1/2
Review: I came away from reading Written in Red in awe of it's world building and I really wasn't sure Bishop could do as well the second time around but she did. Once again I was so involved in the Other's world and the characters surrounding Lakeside I never wanted the book to end. I found that I had to push myself to keep reading. This is completely opposite of most other books. When I find a book I love I gobble it down as quickly as possible. With this book (and the first one) I found I wanted to slow down, absorb it's awesomeness, and savor it. Too bad I was on a deadline. I kind of feel I might have missed some great things by reading it too fast.
I really enjoyed the way Simon and Meg's relationship is progressing. I love how she confuses him so much and how he is completely perplexed by her negative reaction to things that he thought he was being most considerate about. His reactions made me chuckle a lot.
I'm going to gush one more time about the world building. Ann Bishop is amazeballs at it. With sooooo many UF series with shifters, werewolves, elementals, psychics, vampires etc, somehow she found a fresh approach. I gots me a little bit of a girl crush on her! When I get around to reading book 3 (I'm actually considering paying FULL PRICE for it!) I may move on to her The Black Jewels series which I've heard is pretty amazing too.

message 197: by Christina T (new)

Christina T (crysteena73) | 180 comments Just an update. Finished my Readers Choice but will probably have to re-read it sometime because I feel I read it too quickly. This series is seriously one that I like to savor slowly. I'm half way through my Green/Teal book and half way through my Abs of Steel one. I have yet to start "S" and the Creature Feature is still undecided. I have another team challenge that I hope one of those books will work with so I can kill two birds with one book.
