Anna | 14 comments So I finished this book yesterday and I am a little confused on how the Wilderwood came to be? Does anyone understand how it started? Overall I really liked it though, the world was so interesting and creepy!

I haven't fully finished the book, but wasn't it made when the Kings bound the monsters to the Shadow Realm as it's protector?

Kathryn Ford (cathy87) | 64 comments I really enjoyed this book. I love creepy forests. I found Red to be a very interesting character. I liked the message that because Red chose to take the roots of the Wilderwood, rather than the Wilderwood forcing it on her, how that made all the difference in her survival and ability to help. Eamon was not quite what I was expecting, but he was a good character and love interest. I found the interludes a little bit strange, they could have done with a bit more padding and description of what was going on with Neve and the Priestesses--it was just a bit vague what they were doing.
I'm also not dead sure what created the Wilderwood in the first place. I thought that its power was used to bind the monsters to the shadowland by the kings, but I am not sure if the kings actually invented the Wilderwood or if it was already standing and they just made the bargain with it.
In any case I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Quinty (Taylor's Version) (queenq) | 589 comments I just finished it and I absolutely loved the plot, but I found the writing style a bit.. meh. It was too much detail for me and made it so I couldn't fully get into the story. Other than that I loved it.

I actually liked the interludes being vague - it added more mystery to the story. I also do really like the message of Red being given a choice. As to how the Wilderwood started, I think maybe it was just a regular forest and the deal between the initial Warden and Second Daughter gave it the magic? Since the woods itself didn't have any magic at the end of the book, when it was all inside Red and Eammon? I'm not completely sure though.
