But does it work the other way around? For example, if I read a book set in a small town in China The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck and want to claim it for 20.3, can I add 5 combo points because it also qualifies for 15.7?

Thank you! I may have been over thinking this. But I like the new format!

I'm sure there will be sub-challenges in your future, but we are glad you like this bit of change.

I looked again at that, too, since I'm the one who does the entering. She has dual citizenship in both the Philippines and US and I erred on the side of nonwestern. I think we have not been entirely consistent, that in that in the past we have marked such authors as western. We will stand by that decision for this author, for this season. I'll try to do better in the future. ;-)

Ok thanks! Not a criticism, by the way. I just wanted to be sure, especially since I sometimes get confused either by the rules or just in general..... ha, ha!

I'll 'fess up - apparently I was confused, too. ;-)
It should be the same as we treat Kazuo Ishiguro and Isabel Allende.

She speaks of herself as being "from Kuwait" rather than being Kuwaiti but she also doesn't refer to herself as being British though she lives there. Without the UK citizenship or reference, we will count her as nonwestern. (And, as usual, please remind me when you post.)

No, it isn't too late, but remember the 15-pointers don't get combos.
If you have scoring adjustments, you should make a new post and reference the original post.

Forgive me, I did get confused about 15 point task. Just one day I must have woke up thinking that, because in earlier ones I didn’t do combos, then in post #23, I wrote in combo points but didn’t add them to the total (🤪😵💫) then after that I just started adding the combos and giving myself points.
Mind is getting foggier and foggier. I went back and corrected it

I can find no evidence he is of other than Benin citizenship. Yes, you may claim nonwestern for him. Please remind me when you post.

I"m sorry the answer is "it depends" - which book?

Could you take a look at the copyright date for
Further Poems by Emily Dickinson
It looks like the correct date is 1920 or 1930

Thank you. Worldcat shows an edition originally published in 1929 and now that edition reflects that.

I'm using it for a 15 point task, so 20.7 doesn't come into play.

Yes, nonwestern. He isn't shown as Uzbek-British, for example, which would disqualify him.

Thanks

It appears WorldCat does not shelve that edition. I have added the page count from Amazon, but that is only 72 pages. We have to go with approved online sources unless you have that edition in hand and can confirm it has more pages.

Thanks. Plays are odd, and the page counts tend to have problems. I appreciate the help!
