RandomAnthony | 14536 comments You know, this makes sense to me...I don't know if people remember, but I remarked that while passing through South Dakota there weren't many fast food restaurants...

How often do you go to McDonalds? Ever? What do you get?

Also, apparently Burger King is remodeling for an "edgier" feeling.

I don't know. Looks the same to me...

Never ever ever for me.

As for the Burger King renovation, it kind of reminds me of the recurrent Mooby franchise in Kevin Smith's movies, though with a different color scheme.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Same food, right?

Oh, yes, remember the awesome LOTR vs. Star Wars scene in Mooby's...:)

(there's some cursin' in this, I should warn you)

David (bowsertheturtle) "...we have cleaning products?"

=) i liked the first one better but it was still a great movie..

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments You know, I went to see The Fellowship of the Ring with my sister-in-law Amy, who apparently hadn't read the books.
At the end of the three hours, she was really confused because they still hadn't thrown the ring in the volcano. "What do you mean, there's two more movies?"

message 8: by Stephen (new)

Stephen (stephenT) I didn't care much for the books or the movies.

message 9: by Stephen (new)

Stephen (stephenT) Felt the same way about Star Wars

message 10: by David (new)

David (bowsertheturtle) yea, when i learned about dune i liked that better then star wars.. my step dad fell asleep when we went to see lotr..

Abigail (42stitches) | 150 comments Yay! I don't feel so alone now. People always look at me funny when I tell them I disliked LotR.

Anyway, I avoid most fast food unless I'm on the road and need something quickly. The husband and I try to go to Arby's, sub places or something not so junky. Occasionally I get a taste for some McDonald's chicken nuggets or Sonic because they have tater tots. And I'll still eat Taco Bell occasionally. I miss 49 cent taco Sundays in Ohio...

message 12: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments I hadn't ever really wanted to read the Lord of the Rings books. I had read the Hobbit as a kid, but had never really cared for high fantasy (aka everything that followed LOTR) so I assumed I wouldn't care for those either. I guess I should have known that just because I don't like the imitators doesn't mean I wouldn't like the more original stuff.

I found the first movie thrilling, and ran home and read all three books. In the end, I loved all three books and all three movies.

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

Yay Sarah, I loved them all too, even though I read the LOTR trilogy instead of studying for finals in college, way before the movies came out.

message 14: by Jaime (new)

Jaime | 158 comments Rarely (I'd say maybe once a month or two) do I go to fast food places. I prefer Burger King to McDonalds and usually get a Whopper Jr meal. I like Wendys better but there arent as many around me.

They just opened a Sonic about 20-25 mins from me and another is supposed to be opening in my town by the end of the year. When its open and the rush dies down (the one in Peabody has been open about a month and a half and there was still about a 1/2 hr wait when I went on Sunday) I will probably choose that over the others.

message 15: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I enjoy the onion rings at Sonic. I really do.

message 16: by Stephen (new)

Stephen (stephenT) I think all the talk here is highfalutin, and our truth is much more common. I hate McDonald's, but I like BK and Arby's. The best burger comes from DQ.

That sounds gross and delicious at the same time. Isn't the Dairy Queen burger the most unhealthy of them all?

And on the earlier topic: I called LOTR Bored of the Ring. I fell asleep in every one I tried to watch.
That and the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. Those bore me to death.

Nope, not the worst. Not by far. Guess I'll try one.
I'm like Bun in that my system doesn't normally appreciate fast food, but every once in a while, MMMMMMMMMMMm-HMMMMMMMMMMMM.

message 19: by Stephen (new)

Stephen (stephenT) The first Pirates was good, but then downhill. LOTR were too damn long, pretentious, and other adjectives.

message 20: by Sally, la reina (new)

Sally (mrsnolte) | 17373 comments Mod
Why were there so many Pirate movies? WHY? The ride itself is only 20 minutes long!

message 21: by Stephen (new)

Stephen (stephenT) Because people like to see Johnny Depp, hoping his clothes will fall off of him.

message 22: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Are you one of those people, Stephen? Or is this "don't ask, don't tell"?

message 23: by Angie (new)

Angie (angabel) Remodeling? In a recession? Hmm.

My family tends to eat fast food maybe three, four times a week. It has to do with the fact that my father used to work third shift, and now when he works first, the timing is just messed up. He gets home around 3:40 and my mom gets home around 5, and he eats really early so he won't wait for her to get home and cook something. I've offered to cook but they refuse to eat anything I make (even American-ized stuff) so usually my mom just brings something home for us.

I think they've also got in their heads it's cheaper to swing through a drive-thru or buy something frozen than actually fix it for real. I can't tell you how many frozen breakfast things we have in our freezer that consist of: scrambled egg, potato, sausage... all things that taste better when you actually make them (and it's not that hard). I'm convinced they'd save money if they stopped stocking up on the freezer things that are easily made in-home, but they don't listen.

I don't do the fast food anymore. It frightens me. I do think BK's "King" commercials were a bizarre form of genius, which is probably why this cracked me up:

I loved the books & enjoyed the movies (except for that ridiculously sappy, painfully drawn-out ending), but a good parody can be a thing of beauty as well.

message 25: by Angie (new)

Angie (angabel) It was good advertising, and I bet the creepiness factor of it helped.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I, too, have enjoyed the Burger King commercials, despite myself. The Spongebob/Sir Mix-a-Lot ones come to mind...

I saw him in his BVD's back in Cry-Baby. It was enough for me. Not enough Depp if you catch my drift.

Mix-a-Lot did a BK commercial? Did he sing, "I like big buns..."?

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Not big buns, square butts. It's very, very odd, Seizure:

Stephen (stephenT) Spongebob has been desecrated. :(

Seizure Romero | 99 comments Thanks, Jackie (& BunWat. Nice crosspost). I'll have to check it out later(don't get youtube here).

I already had the new lyrics ready:

"...when a girl walks in with an itty bitty waist
and shoves a Whopper in your face
you get HUNG-
(gry)."

message 32: by Seizure Romero (new)

Seizure Romero | 99 comments Thanks!

I figured "don't want none unless it got BUNS, hon" could pretty much go unchanged.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Heh, I think you've got the basic idea, Seizure.

message 34: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I didn't know that Tim Horton had migrated across the border. I've been to plenty of Horton/Wendy combos in Ontario, New Brunswick, and PEI over the years.

message 35: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Ah, maybe so. If I were ambitious I'd do a search for their website.

Muthafuhkahs.

message 37: by Seizure Romero (new)

Seizure Romero | 99 comments Those bastards time-machined your brain! Outrageous, I say!

As parodies go, it's kinda excellent. Juvenile, but excellent (Bilbo & Frodo Baggins become Dildo & Frito Bugger. I leave the rest to your imagination).

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Sally wrote: "Why were there so many Pirate movies? WHY? The ride itself is only 20 minutes long!"

I agree completely. But I think the answer to your question has something to do with soccer moms and Johnny Depp, I agree.

message 39: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Sally said muthafuhkahs.

message 40: by Stephen (new)

Stephen (stephenT) I was a little "taken back" by that myself. However! Being a grammar maven is hard work, and we all have to take plagiarism very seriously.

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments I have nothing to add here except that you, Seizure Romero and Sally, have made me anort several times in this thread... and I thought you should know that. :)
