This thread is where you can chat about all things PIFM, ask questions and once books have been read, review your selected reads. A complete free for all.

PLEASE NOTE:

PIFM is meant to be FUN and not to be taken seriously. I would appreciate it if all participants just chilled and not get worked up about voting, who votes, who doesn't, etc. Please bear in mind that some will just want to vote, many don't come on everyday and most of us have time constraints. I just want a relaxed approach to it all and for you all to just enjoy the process! I'd really appreciate your courtesy in this matter. Many thanks.

Kirsten (kmcripn) Welcome back, Agnieszka!! Hope everything is well in your part of the world, considering you're closer to the Ukraine than I am .

message 12: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) Wow! It's neck and neck between Dark Voyage and Bangkok Tattoo! Not like last month where Fault in Our Stars won in a landslide!

I have collected way too many things over the years. There are still boxes to open. Have discovered goodies that I had totally forgotten I had owned. Moving is quite an adventure.

I'm getting some bits and pieces of information but all in all am avoiding news for almost two years now. I try to concentrate on the more uplifting aspects and living in central Germany the war is far away there're no immediate effects on us yet. I hope it will stay this way and the people of Ukraine will vanquish this attempt on their freedom soon.

Kirsten wrote: "Wow! It's neck and neck between Dark Voyage and Bangkok Tattoo! Not like last month where Fault in Our Stars won in a landslide!"

I have two of those as well. Fałszerz (The Deceiver) and The Truth Teller changed positions three times already. I'm curious which one will win.

Agnieszka (agnieszka7) | 1462 comments Welcome Sarah,

you've done it well. If you want to vote for others' books you can do it in the thread: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... though you don't have to if you'd rather take it slow in the beginning. You'll find there what we picked for you as well.

I love the cutie in your avatar picture.

Sophie | 1126 comments I've got a 3 way tie between Hamnet, The Sanatorium and It Ends with Us if someone wouldn't mind breaking it please?

Vicki Willis I can not change my vote. I chose It Ends with Us. Hopefully someone will change to that. It was so good!

Agnieszka (agnieszka7) | 1462 comments Vicki Willis wrote: "I can not change my vote. I chose It Ends with Us. Hopefully someone will change to that. It was so good!"

Because of such a strong recommendation I changed my vote to It Ends with Us now.

message 25: by Sophie (new)

Sophie | 1126 comments That IS a strong recommendation. I'm currently reading Reminders of Him by Colleen Hoover and forgot how much I enjoy her books so I'm looking forward to reading It Ends with Us!

message 26: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) It Ends With Us was really good, but my favorite of hers is still November 9!

message 27: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Bergman (marshop) | 1229 comments I just finished reading the second choice pick, Quilt City Murders. I just couldn't wait since I just moved to Paducah, Kentucky which is the setting for the book. The quilt week will begin here in April so the book is timely for me. The actual murderer was a complete surprise to me. I didn't come close to quessing.

I am now going to start "Easy Prey" by John Sanford which is the 1st choice. I have really enjoyed his other books so am looking forward to this one.

I haven't read November 9th, but it is on my list. Maybe I will put it in the next voting page.

I'm so glad you liked this book as I put in on my watch list after seeing it between your books.
Does quilting have a prominent role in this book or is it rather maginal? I'm still looking for interesting quilting themed books for the third part of the quilting challenge :-D

Yes, it is centered around the quilters in Paducah. The quilt museum houses the winners of Quilt Week and the first place winner receives $20,000. The sponsors are fabric, sewing machine, and a variety of other manufacturers. You would probably enjoy the book if you are a quilter or just like a good mystery.

Can’t believe it’s nearly April!! 😳

message 34: by Sophie (new)

Sophie | 1126 comments I can't wait for April. It's my birthday month and I have just over a week off work in the run up to Easter weekend to hopefully get some R 'n' R, some home projects and do plenty of reading in the sunshine on the balcony of my new home! I've been trawling Pinterest and Tiktok for ideas on how to turn my balcony into a little oasis ready for summer :)

Vicki Willis Awesome Sophie!
Everyone should have a reading oasis!

message 37: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Bergman (marshop) | 1229 comments Sophie, You have given me some ideas. I love to create places to sit and read. I am planting some roses in our entry walkway so now the front porch will be a pleasant place to sit and read.

Sue | 131 comments Patricia wrote: "Sophie, You have given me some ideas. I love to create places to sit and read. I am planting some roses in our entry walkway so now the front porch will be a pleasant place to sit and read."

I’ve just ordered a couple of roses which I will plant in a bed by my patio that gets the evening sun so I will have lovely scents to sit & read by. You can get roses that will grow in tubs for your balcony Sophie

message 39: by Sophie (new)

Sophie | 1126 comments Me too, Patricia. I moved from a house to an apartment in September so have lost a lot of outside space but plan to make the most of what I do have by planting things in pots. My Grandma sent me a packet of night-scented stock seeds, which she assures me smell wonderful on summer nights. I'm also going to buy maybe a jasmine plant to grow up the wall and train along the balcony rail and, of course, have some fairy lights, lanterns and comfortable seating

message 40: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) I've always dreamed of having a window seat.

That sounds great, especially the fragrance choices. I chose only fragrant roses for my garden since I like to have some in vases in the house.

Sophie | 1126 comments Kirsten wrote: "I've always dreamed of having a window seat."

A window seat would be amazing! I've always rather liked the idea of a rocking chair by a window or a large comfy armchair. It might be my next purchase.

The roses sound fabulous, Patricia. My home is full of daffodils at the moment, which smell lovely. I don't think I'll have room to plant roses on my balcony, unless I went for climbers - which could be a possibility...

Agnieszka (agnieszka7) | 1462 comments Kirsten wrote: "Still got a tie! Dark Voyage v Bangkok Tattoo!! Help!!"

Sorry can't help, I'm still for Dark Voyge (even if I was willing to consider changing my vote :-D)
Worst case you could try to roll the dice (with even numbers for one of the books and odd for the other *grins*)

message 46: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) I'll have to dig up some dice. Haven't used them in years.

Or you use https://www.random.org/dice/?num=1 (pre-set for one die, if you want more you can change it in the address field) I got a four if that helps :-D

message 49: by Dana (new)

Dana (dkmckelvey) | 623 comments A bit late, but better late than never I guess! I finished Then She Was Gone

Not my favourite Lisa Jewell but a good read. I think I read too many of hers in a row.

message 50: by Agnieszka (new)

Agnieszka (agnieszka7) | 1462 comments Finally finished my April book late last night.

Fałszerz=The Deceiver by Frederick Forsyth 3* 6/1 - it wasn't one story but four interconnected by the MC set over a period of seven years (1983-1990) each with a long, slow build-up and short ending full of action (for the first three). Additional issues for me:
- much too much (unnecessary) swearing
- the publisher decided to give each of the four parts to a different translator which created four different styles - I wan't fond of the first three, the last one was ok.
Until the very end I was ambivalent with the MC, he was as much likeable as off-putting - which is realistic but not very entertaining.
I doubt I'll read another book by this author, though could be swayed if I see another one on my father's shelf (they are all Polish translation and I need all the contact with my mother tongue I can get)
