Stella was part of the team that got in the gun fight in the last book where Lance was severely injured. In this story we see her dealing with the residual trauma of that experience. Your thoughts about how her feelings manifested themselves in her mind and performance?

I'm not sure how it affected her performance, but her mind was definitely always on what happened whenever she was faced with a situation where she might have to use her gun.

Seemed like she took on a lot of guilt for what happened in the last book - the fact that two people died and Lance was injured because she missed a shot. If I remember correctly - it would’ve been a hard shot to make.
This was something she needed to work on - to get out of her head and put in some shooting practice time.

Throughout the book we see Stella still struggling with what happened in the previous book. Guilt that she didn't successfully take the shot and understanding when Lance is still having physical and psychological issues as well. She second guesses some of her responses and also her prowess with her weapon.

Stella is dealing with a lot of guilt which makes her second guess everything. She is worried that she may put another officer at risk.
