Perky House Decorating! March Mini Challenge

This is an optional mini challenge for our UNO players. You've built the house of your dreams, now it is time to decorate it!!

◈ You can mix and match from the below task options, whatever you choose is a maximum of 45 tasks (i.e. books read).
◈ You must choose a minimum of 10 tasks from each of the four categories. This means that if doing the maximum 45 tasks you would have 10 from each category and then 5 of your choice. If doing less than the maximum, for example, you only do 27 tasks, then you would need to have 10 each from 2 categories and 7 from another.
◈ Each book read can only be used for one task.
◈ If you complete all your decorations (45 tasks), your team will receive 30 bonus points.

1. Paint the walls

◈ Read books with one of the below colours as the:

>Cover of the book ; 15 points each ; or
>Colour of text on cover ; 10 points each; or
>Colour word found in text ; 5 points each.

Colours to choose from:
Orange
Purple
Pink
Black
White
Brown
Grey


2. Hang some paintings - 15 points each

◈ Read books where the cover could be a classical painting (no need to get mod approval, but if you need inspiration on what is classical, here is a good guide: https://www.toperfect.com/Classical-P...).

◈ Read books where the cover could be a Fantasy painting (as above, no approval required, but this is a good guide: https://www.toperfect.com/Fantasy-Pai...)


3. Showcase your fancy travel souvenirs - 10 points each

◈ Read books set in any real country except Canada, USA, England, Australia and New Zealand.
(to be clear, absolutely no part of the book can be set in these 5 countries, and the setting must be a country on planet Earth and not a fictional/fantasy country)


4. Swap some flower cuttings with your neighbour - double the card points value (for example, 40 points instead of the 20 points for a 0-9 card, or 60 points instead of 30 for a 0-9 coloured card)

◈ Use any 6 card in your March hands for X instead of S
◈ Use any 2 card in your March hands for W instead of T
◈ Use any SKIP card in your March hands for Q instead of K or P



                        



◈ Books can be started at any point since the start of the UNO challenge (Feb 1)
◈ Books need to be finished after the start of this mini challenge on March 15, 9am UTC. Countdown is here: https://www.timeanddate.com/countdown...

◈ Books used for categories 1-3 of this mini challenge do not need to be separate books for what you are claiming for your UNO hands
◈ The usual book length rules apply
◈ Team spreadsheets will be updated with a mini challenge tab so that you can track your books and claim your points

Q. if we have a Wild Draw 4 card matching a "2" or "6" color card, can we also do the swap on it and get double points?
A. No - we are going with straight up 2, 6, or Skip cards

Q. if we have a Wild card, that could be a 2,6 or Skip, can we also do the swap on it and get double points?
A. No - we are going with straight up 2, 6, or Skip cards

Can alt-history / fantasy versions of Earth be used in part 3? eg Akata Witch is set in a version of Nigeria where there is magic
A. Yes

Since you just said England, we can still read books in Scotland and Ireland and Wales?
A. yes, our wording was deliberate :)

With task 4. We have to read for the cards just the same, but the 2 we read ALSO needs to have a W aspect (in addition to the T)... yes? Or are we reading it INSTEAD of the T?
You are reading W instead of T

And, I guess my next question is, do we have to only use books that we haven't yet read cards for? If so, I may need to rearrange our Team Spreadsheet... but there won't be any hope for our lone color card (2Green), since we've already read it..
A. Nothing about the books you have read is set until the end of the month so feel free to move things around as you like.

Q. For task 1, I assume same rules as with colour cards apply? cover must be >50% of said colour?
A. yes, if you are going for the colour cover

Q. for task 3, do non-fiction books count?
A. As long as it fits the usual UNO rules

Q. Category 1: each color is considered a different task? can we repeat? or, does it has to be just one orange cover but then an orange text in cover? not two orange covers I mean.
A. You can repeat. Go crazy with orange covvers if you really want to

Q. Category #2: can the same book (cover) be used by two team members? will both count?
Category #3: can countries be repeated?
A. yes and yes

Q.If we have 2 Skips and a Draw Two in one hand, and we read a Skip/Q, can we use it twice in that hand for the Draw Two card?
A. yes the card acts the same, it is just a different letter you are looking for with the Skip to get the extra points

Q.Since books used for categories 1-3 do not need to be separate books for what you are claiming for your UNO hands, does that mean that if we read a W/X/Q card for cat 4 that also works for a book in cat 1-3 we can also use it there?
A. No, it means if you read a book for cat 1-3 that isn't in your main hand then that is ok (it is the usual rule we have). because cat 4 is directly related to the cards in your hand it has to be the same. You can't use a book for more than one task in a mini

Q. For Category #2 - do we have to choose one of the options and stick to it for the entire category or can we use options from both:
◈ Read books where the cover could be a classical painting OR Fantasy painting
◈ Read books where the cover could be a classical painting AND/OR Fantasy painting??
A. You can use options from both

Q. If we read a 2 Green using the W, can we use a Traditional 2 Green (with a T aspect) when filling a WD4 in our UNO hand, or would we have to read another book with the W if we wanted to duplicate a 2 Green?
A. For the WD4, use the traditional 2 Green

Q. Just to clarify, if I have a book, Ruled by her Daddies, set on modern planet Earth (the characters even crossed over with one of her Montana Daddies books), but the country is fictional, it does not work for Category #3?
A. No. It must be a real country.
