Verónica has had many surgeries to manage her disability. The best form of rehabilitation is swimming, so she spends hours in the pool, but not just to strengthen her body. Her Florida town is home to Mermaid Cove, a kitschy underwater attraction where professional mermaids perform in giant tanks . . . and Verónica wants to audition. But her conservative Peruvian parents would never go for it. And they definitely would never let her be with Alex, her cute new neighbor. She decides it’s time to seize control of her life, but her plans come crashing down when she learns her parents have been hiding the truth from her—the truth about her own body

Ch 1-8 (view spoiler)[ I feel bad that Veronica's dad is so strict and thinks being a mermaid is a waste. It's her dream and swimming is good for her leg so I don't see the problem (hide spoiler)]

Ch 9-20 (view spoiler)[ I'm glad Alex is a good guy and not pressuring Veronica. I hope her parents let up on her and she gets to be a mermaid. And that the necrosis isn't too bad yet. It's shitty that she was kept out her own medical information (hide spoiler)]

Ch 21-30 (view spoiler)[ So happy that she got the job, but I have a feeling her parents will find out and pull her. Maybe it's a good time for her to tell them her feelings about everything (hide spoiler)]

Ch 31-End (view spoiler)[ I'm happy she got to tell her story with the show and that her parents listened to her feelings. The ending could have been a bit more developed. It felt a bit abrupt and I'm sad she's quitting the mermaid job (hide spoiler)]

Ch 1-10: (view spoiler)[It's weird. Like I like the book but don't like how strict her parents can be towards her and her sister. At some point, I thought the swimming would help heal things a bit, but I guess not. Sad that the tissue is dying, and her parents knew but she didn't. Also, how the hell does she have to wait 2 months for an MRI? (hide spoiler)]

I'm so happy too but I have a feeling she's going to get caught and the outcome won't be good.

Very true. She has control over her body which is great
