I finally got the folder up for our pre-readathon shenanigans. In addition to the challenges I am hosting on Goodreads and facebook, there are BINGO cards coming, though I don't know yet if any are pre-readathon oriented. Check out the Spring 2022 Pre-Readathon folder for individual participation threads on these challenges.
This year's pre-readathon challenges are designed to get us in the mood for reading, a particular challenge this year while so many of us are in real life watching the worst war in Europe since WW2. Whether you are reading to escape the messiness of real life (never a bad reason to read a book, really), or to learn more about the world around us, or for some totally different reason. it is time to start flexing your reading 'muscles' so that when we pick up our first book of the readathon, on April 30th, at 8am Eastern Time, we'll be ready to dive into 24 full hours of luscious reading time.
Challenge 1 - Short Stories - Author Challenges
In this challenge your goal is to read short stories by authors whose names start with each letter of the alphabet.
OR
If you are more map-minded, you can try to read short stories by authors from as many countries as you can.
Challenge 2 - Arts Challenge
Read a book about
- a poet
- a theater
- a music artist or ensemble
- a museum
- a painter or other visual artist
- a dancer or dance troupe
Challenge 3 - Warm and Fuzzies
For this challenge, read a book featuring
- a cat
- a dog
- a zoo
- a rodent
- wild animals
Challenge 4 - Our Classic Reading Sprints and Long Laps
Our week-long long laps are
March 26 - April 1
April 2 - 8
April 9 - 15
April 16 - 22
April 23 - 29
These are a great way to get in the habit of reading more. If you want to pick a start and stop time, that is up to you. Most of us have to work around schedules that make exact times awkward to keep up for 5 whole weeks. We'll also have hour long reading sprints posted on Facebook, and possibly Goodreads, Twitter and/or Instagram over the next 5+ weeks for folks who want to join in. If you are in our online community on one of our platforms and decide to do your own reading sprints feel free to invite others to join you, too.
