Now that this recently-discovered title by Burgess is on my mind, I think these singular works of 'crossover' need to be called out, especially. Any additions much welcomed...

These are all well-regarded lit-fic authors

The Good Terrorist by Doris Lessing The Good Terrorist by Doris Lessing
V. by Thomas Pynchon V. by Thomas Pynchon
The Secret Agent by Joseph Conrad The Secret Agent by Joseph Conrad
The Man Who Was Thursday by G.K. Chesterton The Man Who Was Thursday by GK Chesterton
Ashenden by W. Somerset Maugham Ashenden by W. Somerset Maugham
Tremor of Intent by Anthony Burgess Tremor of Intent by Anthony Burgess
The Last Thing He Wanted by Joan Didion The Last Thing He Wanted by Joan Didion
The Ugly American by William J. Lederer The Ugly American by William J. Lederer
Topaz by Leon Uris Topaz by Leon Uris

And Graham Greene, of course (too many to list adequately)

Brzzzzzap! Wrong answer

Forsyth ain't no 'mainstream' author. John Updike is a mainstream author. Forsyth was a reporter, and then a thriller author

Nice list! Not sure how I missed it... looked at Forsyth's autobiography at the book store but didn't make the purchase. Any thoughts on it?

Samuel (group captain over at Orion Team) just finished it and yes, he gives it a hearty recommendation. I personally have no time for it as I am hunting other game...

Orion Team? Hmmm, I will be right back...

They're a reputable bunch. Well-organized and well-maintained. Tight ship.

One difference between Samuel and myself though is that Samuel tends to focus a tad more on new/recent release book titles, whereas I lean towards classics wherever and whenever possible.

Samuel *knows* his classics very well, but he simply likes to keep tabs on more current-day trends. There's many in our groups who enjoy dual-membership in both outfits.
