Thieryn | 27 comments Hi all! I want to start the works of Agatha Christie, Hercule Poirot books! I plan to go through almost all of them, and in order as some rely on having read others. I spent some time with a good friend who is an AG fiend, and they marked down about 30 out of the 40 books that are considered "Hercule's Best".

The rough schedule for our series read is as below, and I will update it in advance for the next 2 months:

June 1-15 - And Then There Were None
June 16-30 - The Big Four

July 1-15 - The Mystery of the Blue Train
July 16 - 31 - Black Coffee

August 1 - 15 - Lord Edgware Dies
August 16 - 31 - Murder on the Orient Express

Finished
April 1-15 - The Mysterious Affair at Styles
April 16-30 - The Murder on the Links

May 1-15 - Poirot Investigates
May 16-31 - The Murder of Roger Ackroyd

I have the first book as well, and ready to go! Would you be up to start on Monday, or perhaps a little later?

Molly Simms - Mystery & Thrillers ✨ Hey, I’ve just finished the 2nd book but would love to join in then you get to the third 😊

message 5: by Scarlette (new)

Scarlette | 10 comments Yes, I would be ready to start the book on Monday.

Scarlette | 10 comments Molly, that sounds great. I love AG works

Molly Simms - Mystery & Thrillers ✨ Just let me know when you’re starting the 3rd 😊

message 8: by Scarlette (new)

Scarlette | 10 comments Molly, will do 😊

Thieryn | 27 comments I will be starting the first book on Monday if you're up for it or to wait as I kinda want to read them in order if I can :)

Scarlette | 10 comments Hi Saha,
Did you start the book on Monday? I just finished the book today 😊

Will you post a list of the first few books so we can be rounding them up if our library doesn't have them? I'll be starting the first one tomorrow.

message 12: by Thieryn (last edited Mar 30, 2022 10:59PM) (new)

Thieryn | 27 comments Sounds good! The rough schedule I had in mind was as follows (I also updated the first message to reflect this):

April 1-10 - The Mysterious Affair at Styles
April 11-20 - The Murder on the Links
April 21-30 - Poirot Investigates

May 1-10 - The Murder of Roger Ackroyd
May 11-20 - The Big Four
May 21-31 - The Mystery of the Blue Train

Please let me know, do you think 10 days is enough to read each book? Should we do 2 per month only? And should I be opening separate topics for each book, or keep all of our comments here in this thread?

˜”*°•.˜”*°• Sheri •°*”˜.•°*”˜ | 2051 comments Mod
2 a month is all I can handle. For me, it's easier to keep up with discussions if they're separate or at least a separate topic for each month.

message 14: by Thieryn (last edited Mar 31, 2022 10:03PM) (new)

Thieryn | 27 comments Ok then, editing the schedule for 2 per month!

I also added the April Buddy Read thread here.

Poirot Investigates is a collection of short stories??? Just throwing this out here, but would it be easier to discuss the various plots if it was given its own discussion topic?

I think fragmenting this too much would be difficult for new members to join. We can do our spoilers though, like "For poirot's story "the X of X" I thought ". What do we think?

Works for me.

Thieryn | 27 comments Hi all - we are 2 days away from starting our May reads for Agatha Christie's saga.
First book for May is Poirot Investigates a collection of short Poirot stories!

Thieryn | 27 comments Hi all - we are 3 days away from starting our May reads for Agatha Christie's saga.
Second book for May is The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, considered one of her best works!

message 25: by Molly Simms (new)

Molly Simms - Mystery & Thrillers ✨ How did I completely miss Poirot Investigates!? 🤦🏼‍♀️

message 26: by Rubena (new)

Rubena | 66 comments Hi guys,
I can't believe I missed this post. I've been thinking of reading my Christie books this year. I was planning on starting with her short story collections which I've never read and then move onto her more well-known body of work..
I'm a couple of books behind (April, of course) but I'll catch up. Better late than never!

I've started Roger Ackroyd. I remember reading this one before and remember I liked it.

Thieryn | 27 comments I started, finished, and LOVED this book. That's what I am looking for, that is why I love AC! This book was epic!

Love it too. This is one of the best in my opinion.

message 30: by Thieryn (new)

Thieryn | 27 comments Hi all - we will be reading our first "independent" Agatha Christie book starting June 1st to June 15th.
Strap in and get ready for And Then There Were None

message 32: by Rubena (new)

Rubena | 66 comments Finished The Murder of Roger Ackroyd last night. I started reading Christie at 11 (when I finally got a library card to the "Grown up" section) and was certain that I had read it. Seems I hadn't. It was an excellent book with all the clues set out for us to see and interpret. I really enjoyed reading it and look forward to And then there were none, which I did read but under a different title.

I found the movie of Roger Ackroyd on PBS. Changed a bunch and the books is better, of course, but it's still a good movie.

Rubena | 66 comments This article came up on CrimeReads this morning. Thought you might like to have a look at it, seeing we're reading some of the books.

The Mystery of the Blue Train also good.

Peter Mitchelmore (petermit) | 1 comments Having read several and watched all TV and movie adaptations of them, I am now (overly) ambitious to have a Poirot-esque detective feature in many books. I have just begun writing the first novel.

message 40: by Thieryn (new)

Thieryn | 27 comments Hi all! How is the reading going? I am still super happy to continue, is anyone up for it?

message 41: by Michael (new)

Michael Oxley | 82 comments I've just tried reading The Mysterious Mr Quin. It wasn't a patch on Poirot. Mr Quin was Christie's favourite character too - The first of Christie's books I've been disappointed with.

message 42: by Thieryn (new)

Thieryn | 27 comments Are we all ready to start the ABC murders tomorrow? It is one of Agatha's best, as far as I have hear, and I can't wait to hear what you all think!
