There’s a scene where WildCard breaks rank and challenges Sam as a leader during the operation. What was the significance of this moment? Have things irrevocably changed between these two, will they find their way back to their friendship or will there friendship be something different?

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2973 comments Sam was right to put Wildcard in his place. Sam had to establish himself as the leader. Their friendship had no place in the preparation for the assault of the plane. I think the friendship can be repaired, but it will be different.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments Sam had to make it clear to Wildcard that regardless of their friendship, Sam was in charge. If he ignored the challenge, his team would look at him as indecisive.

I believe that their friendship will remain strong and return to what it was. These things sometimes happen in stressful situations. Wildcard was going through a lot.

Just like in corporate environment where someone moves into upper management ranks, it can be an adjustment for former peers. WildCard would have been out of line if Sam were still in the enlisted ranks but it was a serious violation now that Sam is an officer.

It’s all on WildCard now. He’s the one needing to accept, respect and understand the difference between their friendship and work roles. He’s a smart guy and values his relationship with Sam. I believe he’ll get there.

Also interesting that someone else had to point out to Sam that he needed to discipline WildCard

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1808 comments I am not a fan of Wildcard's character at this point. Both in the beginning with the marines in the bar and here with Sam, he demonstrated an immaturity and selfishness that I found very annoying.

The next book is his and I hope that he matures and learns to behave like an adult and a SEAL.

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments I think their friendship is already starting to get back to normal. When Wildcard found Sam after Sam's fight with Alyssa, he started trying to agitate him about the fact that Sam was now an officer and his superior. But he stopped when he realized that Sam was in love with Alyssa Locke. Wildcard actually felt bad for Sam and didn't want him going through a horrible breakup like Wildcard had just gone through the last six months.

Wildcard now has to remember that he cannot treat Sam as his buddy during work. I think he will remember it.

I also think it is back on track after that scene. However, I'm not sure it will ever be 100% the same.

Sam is now his superior officer and Wildcard needs to put his ego aside and do his job.
