There is a status to being a SEAL's wife, especially if you live in a military community. Unfortunately, many women who work so hard to get their SEAL don't realize what their life will be, and the marriage fails.
I don’t remember if it’s true or not but I do believe Mary Lou orchestrated this pregnancy.
I agree that these women don’t think beyond the so-called “status” of being the wife of a SEAL. It requires significant sacrifice and lots of time alone with many broken plans. When these men go away, they can’t even tell their spouse where they’re being assigned. These kind of marriages fail because that “status” isn’t enough.

It is not stated outright but it is implied. In the beginning, it s made clear that Mary Lou wants to marry a SEAL and that Sam is careful to use protection. She must have done something overt to get pregnant.
