Focus on Reading - Week 34 - Last Book

I have been wanting to read that.

I can't say which book was my most recent kindle sale/ impulse buy and I have 6 kindle books checked out from the library. There's also a list of saved books in my Scribd account. Too many choices. That may be why I'm not finishing as many books as usual.
This morning I bought the Andy Serkis audiobook of The Return of the King https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5...
It was on sale.

- bought online
- recommended highly by one of my GR friends
- I tend to like a good dystopian science fiction from time to time
The last audio book was: The Dragons, the Giant, the Women: A Memoir by Wayétu Moore
- bought from Audible in a recent sale
- I am trying to learn more about African history and this one is a memoir about the First Liberian civil war and the author's subsequent migration to the US.
The last hard copy was: The New Russians by Hedrick Smith
- Highly recommended by a RL friend who reads a lot of non-fiction
- I am trying to increase my knowledge of Russian history. This book takes a look at what occurred during the era of Gorbachev and Perestroika.

I recently was reminded that it is by a local author which pushed it up for me and I had a small credit which I was able to use on it.

My last book was Honor by Thrity Unigar, and I bought it because I knew I was attending a book club with her. That was last night, and it was unforgettable. Both the book and the discussion!

That sounds good. I will let you know if I bump it up in April.

This has been on my list Charlie and I can't seem to push it forward.

Secondhand Time: The Last of the Soviets. I've had this on my tbr for awhile, and was reminded of it when I searched for 2014 books last week, so I got on the wait list. I'm interested in reading more about Russian history, and this one has fabulous reviews on gr. One of my teammates might read it for our history challenge.
Library book
Listening Still by Anne Griffin. I loved this author's debut book When All Is Said, so when I saw she had a new book coming out this year I got on the library wait list. I picked it up yesterday.
Purchases:
The Forty Rules of Love by Elif Shafak. She's on my author list this year. I liked another of her books, and she gets positive reviews by PBTers, It popped up on my daily email from Bookbub a couple days ago. 1.99 kindle, which also gives me the option to get the audio half price.
The last audio I bought was The Sparrow, for our author game early this month (on sale at Audible).
I've also downloaded many audios from the library recently primarily for our author game and tags

This sounds good to me too. It reminds me of one of my favorite films -The Red Violin.

I bought the whale ebook too a while ago (though it has a different title on gr). We were probably both influenced by the same person/review for an aty prompt. When it fits a tag we should read it together.
You might also be interested in the Russia book I found - Secondhand Time: The Last of the Soviets. I seem to be attracted to Russia and China right now.

I've never bought an audio book, only use that format from the library either Libby or Hoopla.
For physical book, I think I bought The Heart's Invisible Furies from the local bookstore in my hometown when I was visiting my dad back in August. I wanted it for the buddy read and happy to support locally. I'm actually pretty good about not buying paperbacks or hardcovers these days and mostly rely on the library. My weakness is the $1 or $2 sales on Kindle that don't take up space in my apartment.
I also purchase a subscription for my nieces and nephew at a lovely local bookstore in Berkeley, called Mrs Dalloways. They pick out books for the kiddos based on their age and interest. I do get slightly jealous that they pick them out when I love researching books for the kids but they are much more reliable at sending regularly and have picked some real winners.
Missed the borrowed part, I currently have 5 physical books out, 2 ebooks and 4 audiobooks.... I'm currently working on The Remains of the Day and a A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail. I usually use challenges or buddy/group reads help me to choose what books to borrow and read. That and the over 100 books on my hold list at that library that I keep suspending because I want to read all of them and they keep adding when they buy ones that I recommended.

LOL - 100 on your hold list?! I can only hold/suspend 20 books at a time, 10 for digital. I have to use my husband's library card to get more spots and I typically fill them all up. But they lengthened the loan period for books, so now I take out a lot more books to have on hand, just in case.
I love the children's book option. My new grand niece is about 18 months old and I should start thinking way ahead. (She's the first grandbaby for all the extended families so she has a ton of everything for her age already.) I see they have a lot of latinx heritage books for kids, which is perfect.

The original title is Not Forgetting the Whale (it's the same book, just retitled).
Thanks for the suggestion. I'll check it out.

@NancyJ, it's actually 160 but I felt better saying over 100... If just adding myself, the limit is 10 but there is this loophole. If you recommend a book for the library to buy, they automatically add it to your holds when they buy it even if you are already at or past the limit. I really should just let them all go but I like using it as a reminder that I want to read them. I swear that I'm not such a hoarder in real life!!
The book subscriptions are fabulous. My youngest niece is only 2 but they sent some great board books and she loves being included like the older ones and to have her own books to choose before bed.
