Jane (PS) | 24334 comments 1. Introduce yourself to your team. Let your team members know where you are from. This is a 'nice to know' when categories are announced and when team-mates can expect other members to post their book choices.

2. Lead Rapper - reserve a couple of posts in this thread tracking your team's book selection and completion. (Alternatively they could convert a chat comment to the tracking post/s.)

3. Name your team. Using this round's theme of BTS, come up with a fun name. Given we are an open/public group with no age limit, so please make sure any chosen name is smart, not smutty ;)

Please PM your name to Jane(PS) by 31 March.

4. If you have a private profile, please 'friend' your team-mates. This is really important, because without this, your team-mates can't see your shelves to select a books under option 2. (It will also help with one of the categories in this round!)

5. Please post your book selections/completions in the format provided below. (This format is also posted in both the Q&A and Sign-Up threads.) We need to know the week that each book corresponds to, the page numbers, and how the book qualifies including links to lists/shelves (where applicable), etc. I can't stress this enough. When in doubt - link it*!

* don't link to your review in your completion post - reviews in your completion posts should be included in full in that post.

You don't want to start reading a book and then find it doesn't meet the requirements because some information (eg page count or theme link) was missing from your original post.

I will be monitoring this and your book will not be considered complete until I am satisfied that your selection and completion posts comply with the format rules of the challenge.

Remember - you can ONLY change your book selection in the week that the theme is called.

6. You MUST check in with your team each week, ideally once the theme is announced. Please let your team know if you expect to have spotty communication or are on holidays or having an operation, etc.

7. When you post the completion of your book, you must post a review; enough for us to know you have actually read the book. Please don't link to a review. You must post the review in this thread.

8. Re-reads are allowed but you can't read the same book twice within this challenge.

9. There is no prize for the winning team - bragging rights only :)

10. Each week, the theme will be announced in the Q&A/Announcement thread. The full list of themes announced during this round will be maintained in msg 1 of that thread.

The Rule on the Pass Option
* Each team can only have ONE member using their pass each week.
* Each member can only use that pass once each 5 weeks.
* This means that one or two team members (dependent upon the size of your team) will miss using a pass in each 5 week block.
* No-one can use the pass option in the last week of the challenge.
* In the final week Option 2 has altered and I will be allocating each team another team from which their book selection must be chosen :)

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments Key selection and completion post information. You must have ALL elements in your book posts.

For selection post Option 1 you must have:
Week #
Bookcover/link
Page numbers
How the book qualifies - please note which qualifying bookshelf/list you are using or the tags that justifies that it works.
If the theme is based off the bookcover, post the cover. If there is a letter count in the title, publication date etc, please note these details.

For selection post Option 2 you must have:
Week #
Bookcover/link
Page numbers
Name of the team-member, their star rating, the date they read the book.

For selection post Option 3 you must have:
Week #
PASS

For the completion post you must have:
Week #
Bookcover/link
Rating (1-5)
Review

Please DO NOT CHAT in these selction/completion posts. It needs to be super clear.

If you 'waffle' about your decided book - please REPOST your selection once you decide. DO NOT go back and edit your waffling post.

IF YOU NEED TO CORRECT A POST FOR MISSING INFORMATION or because the didn't qualify etc, please REPOST this inforamtion in a NEW post. I don't want to have to keep going backwards in the thread.

Trip (shardsofromance) | 2210 comments 1. The more modern form of the genre emerged with the formation of one of the earliest K-pop groups, the boy band Seo Taiji and Boys, in 1992.
* Read a book with a publication year ending in 2. That is, 2022 / 2012 / 2002 / 1992 etc.
Please state your edition's publication date.

2. Breaking into the Japanese market allowed K-pop to really take off.
* Read a book set in Asia or with an Asian MC
Qualification must be via the precis, main page location, list or shelf.
(view spoiler)

3. Previously, South Korean pop music was called gayo. Gayo is an old form of the Korean traditional poetry.
* Read a book with an MC who writes (author, poet, journalist, PHD student writing a thesis) or an LGBTQ+ character.
Qualification must be via the precis, main page location, list or shelf.

4. The first known use of the term K-pop occurred on Billboard on October 9, 1999
* Read a book with a 9 in the page numbers.
Rules on page numbers apply - minimum count (109pp ~ since you can't get a 9 in the count otherwise and still qualify); any English language edition.

5. The French Institut national de l'audiovisuel defines K-pop as a "fusion of synthesized music, sharp dance routines and fashionable, colorful outfits."
* Read a book with a colorful (energetic) cover. The cover must have at least 5 separately identifiable colours from: White, Yellow, Orange, Red, Pink, Purple, Blue, Aqua, Green, Grey & Black.
Please state your identified colors.

6. A feature of K-pop groups is their systemic training from a young age.
* Read a book with an MC who is a student or in training (eg athletes, musicians, dancers, apprentices ~ someone who 'trains'). Excludes actors.
Qualification must be via the precis, main page location, list or shelf.

7. Fashion is part of the vibrant presentation.
* Read a book with a well-dressed or brightly-dressed person/s on the cover.
Not just jeans and a tee-shirt (or no shirt). Must be a 'put together'/crafted look.

8. Some K-pop artists have suggested that the uncertainty and pressures of their jobs as entertainers may be detrimental to their mental health.
* Read a book with an MC who is either struggling with mental health or works in the medical industry (doctor, nurse, psychologist, etc)
Qualification must be via the precis, main page location, list or shelf.

9. The biggest K-pop band at the moment is BTS.
* Read a book with the letters B T & S in the title and/or series name.
The author's name does not count for this task.

10. RM (Rap Monster) was the first BTS member recruited.
* Read a book with a PNR or Fantasy shelf showing on the main page.
Please state the applicable MPG in your qualification.

11. Jin is the eldest member of the group and was recruited for both his looks and singing. His tag name is World Wide Handsome.
* Read a book with a handsome* man on the cover.
(*your interpretation.) Facial features must be seen clearly.

12. Suga is a rapper and possibly the quietest of the members. His personality profile is (supposedly) 'Introverted, Intuitive, Thinking, Perceiving'.
* Read a book with an intelligent MC from one of the following lists:
Brainy Romantic Heroes
Nergasms
Gay Bookish, Nerdy, Geeky Characters
Nerdy Geeky Heroines of Romance

13. J-Hope is a rapper as well, but with his independent release of the song 'Chicken Noodle Soup', he is also the wealthiest.
* Read a book from one of the following lists:
Millionaire, Billionaire, King, Wealthy Man
Billionaires, Millionaires, Tycoons and Other Utterly Rich Romance Heroes.
MM Romance with a millionaire/billionaire and an everyman

14. Jimin - Fabulous dancer, great singer and Gucci loves him as they sell out of everything he wears. He's also the member that many men would turn gay for (even though Jimin is not actually gay). Is he almost perfect?}
* Read a book from one of the following lists:
The Mary Sues of Literature
The Gary Stus of Literature
Dream Guy
YA contemporary romance with perfect guy
Best Gay For You
Any book written by Mary Calmes

15. V says he would have been a farmer if he hadn't been in BTS.
* Read a book with a rural setting (eg ranch, farm, wilderness).
Qualification must be via the precis, main page location, list or shelf. I will accept 'small town' as a qualification as well.

16. Jungkook - the youngest group member and the main singer. He is also very competitive and sporty.
*Read a book from one of the following lists:
Sports Romances
Romance with hero/heroine that is a an athlete
Best Gay Athletes
Best books about being in love with a pro-athlete

Trip (shardsofromance) | 2210 comments Hey Team! I've done ptp a few times and as captain a couple now, excited for another round. Look forward to reading and getting to know you all.

My favourite genre is Romance and I do lean towards m/m, but I've been getting back into a variety over the last year. I do tend to jump between genres based on moods as long as has a romance, been very sci-fi this month but got a bunch of contemporary and fantasy based buddy reads for april.

Also I'm from England so depending time announced its usually late for me, i am often a night owl though so should be around.

Will try to think of some team names later too, love to see any ideas. I must admit while enjoyed some of bts recent music, I don't know much about them or majoriry of songs 😂

Have fun 🎉

Team Name Suggestions
- Butter me up
- House of Books
- Book Maze
- Book & Wild

Times
New task between 3pm and 6pm US EST each Friday.
UK 8pm and 11pm

Roger - president of NBR United - (roger_presidentofnbrunited) | 2042 comments Hello, I am Roger, 53 from Milwaukee, WI, I have MS. in another team challenge with Steph, been on teams with Shelby before, been in Challenge with Trio and Laura. Read mainly M/M romance. Looking foward to this. No clue about bts so no name suggestions.

Think min is only one I don't know.

message 12: by Steph (new)

Steph | 1001 comments Hi, everyone! I'm Steph 35 from Ohio US and I'm a SAHM. Sundays I'm usually offline most of the day. I'll def sneak on if needed but won't be able to link anything as more than likely I'll be mobile.

This is my first time playing PtP and I'm excited to try this challenge out.

I read mainly MM but toss in a couple MF here and there at the urging of my bestie.

The only thing I know about BTS is they had a meal at McDonald's and they sing an annoyingly catchy song (seriously if I hear "Butter" once I'll sing it for a week). I don't have any name suggestions off the top of my head but I'll think on it.

Roger - president of NBR United - (roger_presidentofnbrunited) | 2042 comments Well if the title of a song is Butter, how about Butter me up

message 14: by Trip (last edited Mar 26, 2022 07:12PM) (new)

Trip (shardsofromance) | 2210 comments Lovely 😊

Hope you enjoy the challenge and find great books. Butter me up sounds cute xx

I did a search on bts and here are a few I thought could be fun, based on songs/albums from them
- House of Books
- Book & Wild
- Book Maze

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments Well again I've stuffed up - I had Steph and Laura down as both reading mf (not a mixture). This is what happens when you do these allocations without a lot of sleep. Hope Min Seok likes those lists and option 1!! 😶

Otherwise I can do a swap with another team since this isn't my only stuff up 😢

I like Butter Me Up (even though since I've brought it up I've been singing the one line of the song I know. Just like I thought I would. 🙃) and Book & Wild

Aww sorry! Its definitely easily done and with so many people, appreciate everything you do for these challenges. Hopefully the lists will be ok for everyone.

Blame my current reads all being m/f too.. But thats because im usually so much slower reading those compared to m/m 😂

Oh no! I'll blame my bestie since she's the reason I have MF on my read shelf. I'm 99.9% MM until she guilts me into reading one of her recs 😂

Well I am happy as I have a good set of shelf's for my mm reading.

Thanks for letting me believe it wasn't just my stuff up and tired brain 😉

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1970 comments Hey everyone! I'm Shelby. I'm an actor/producer out in LA which basically means my schedule is all over the place. I never seem to keep a steady schedule. I will read anything and everything really. But I do love my romance and sci/fi/fantasy/paranormal. I'm reading a mix of MM and MF at this point so I'm really not picky.

I'm fine with any name suggestions really and I have a relatively minimal knowledge of BTS. :)

How the book qualifies - please note which qualifying bookshelf/list you are using or the tags that justifies that it works.: from precis I remember the sands of my homeland, the scorching sun and the cool evenings staring at skies that have changed little in my 1800 years of life, but I’ve changed so much. Born into poverty, blessed by my Demon mate, and raised to be his perfect wife, my entire life, past present and future, all came crumbling down at once. They raised me, cultivated me and molded me into the perfect woman for him, but there’s one problem: I’m not a woman.

Review :

I can never get enough of Vampires and this books concept was fascinating, i loved the exploration of culture and the types of vampires. Along with auras and bonding, the importance of aristocracy and knowledge of their history.

Haruka and Nino build a friendship theoughout the story, as they find comfort in one another and kindred spirit. They work together on the book of Lore & Lust, learning about each other along the way. I really enjoyed the slow burn feels between them as discver a bond and fall in love.

They have so much growth as individuals too as Nino begins to explore the world his avoided in pursuit of a partnership with Haruka. While Haruka finds the confidence to return to his home and take up his role, acknowledging the past and moving forward.

Overall a fast paced, entertaining and beautiful intoduction to lovely characters. I'm excited for the rest of the series, whats next for these two and continued plot. The end is rather abrupt, but fitting to the start of their story 💕
