. . . as soon as things slow down for me toward the end of the month, i'm going to start researching dork '10 . . .i gotta get an early start in order to get reservations . . . missing you guys, and longing for your company and a keg to ice obsessively!

Martyn | 299 comments Great stuff. Shall be there next year! What month you thinking? August is best for me...but whatever is great!

. . .i'm thinking august, either at fort worden, or somewhere else i've yet to discover on the peninsula . . .i'll be touring on the east coast in the fall, and would love to have a meet up in NYC at that time, and i'll also be there in spring for BEA, so it's doubtful if i'd be able to make it east in summer, but if you guys decide you wanna' move the venue east, or add a second party, i say go for it . . .

And when, pray tell, will the novelist of the year be visiting Chicago?

I'll be there next year.

I'm sorry to say that I don't believe I will make the Dork next year wherever it may be held. Phillip and I want to do try to do some European traveling perhaps and I'll need to save up all my time off!

It doesn't mean I don't love you all.

message 7: by Martyn (new)

Martyn | 299 comments you must come and visit me...and Lara in the land of Eng.

Let me know if/when you get to either NYC or Philly. East Coast Dork '10 will happen, and I will be there.

. . .okay, so i wanna' know who is in for next august, so i can get some kind of general idea about how many rooms we'll need, etc, as reservations will need to be made well in advance . . . and yes, shel and greg, you'll be the first to know when i come to your town!

Martyn, does that mean we can crash on your floor?

;)

dan... you should take something for that cough. i'm undecided. that's next year. i can't understand time that far in advance. as of now i'd say 30%yes/70%no. it will depend on many things the main one being that i'm still alive what with pointy stick attacks and such in the near future. i know that's of no help for planning purposes... so just assume i won't be attending and if i do i'll bring sleeping equipment like closed eyes and prone positions.

message 12: by Greg (new)

Greg Ippolito (gregippolito) | 52 comments NON SEQUITUR ALERT!!!

Since I can't seem to avoid that FANCAST ad in the sidebar, I'll ask:

Which is the most overrated TV show of the modern era, HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER or GREY'S ANATOMY?

How I met Your Anatomy?

Kerry Dunn (kerryanndunn) | 887 comments Mod
Personally I love How I Met Your Mother. Neil Patrick Harris and Jason Segal are hysterical and Alyson Hannigan is adorable.

So there.

I kinda think thirtysomething, but that may be because I wasn't thirtysomething when it was on and it all seemed like whining to me.

I felt the same way. But I remember there was a character on that show named "Hope," and the name was supposed to be symbolic of what had been lost with years, etc. On that alone, it's one of the ten worst shows ever made.

Christy (christybuttons) | 19 comments I'd like to participate in an East Coast Thingy; provided I can keep my agoraphobia in check. I'm sweatin' already thinking about NYC.

pointy sticks have been averted. my chances are gooder that i will be able to attend. count me in... that's on the Dork '10, not the tv shows.

I'm frying bacon and will be in charge of syrup.

message 24: by Shel, ad astra per aspera (new)

Shel (shelbybower) | 946 comments Mod
Watch out! JE is a tyrant about the syrup... You'd better bring a few bottles with you and hide them all over the kitchen.

Then we can play hot and cold until he finds them.

message 25: by Neil (new)

Neil McCrea | 204 comments I'm in, I still feel guilty for missing Dork III.
Oddly enough, I very well may be in NYC next fall as well.

message 26: by Martha (new)

Martha Kate | 198 comments I'm in, as long as the festivities take place in August. Looks like I'll be delivering my fair-haired child to either Reed or Evergreen.

Shel (shelbybower) | 946 comments Mod
Congrats, Martha (and to your son, too)... well, maybe a little early, but still!

. . .both great colleges in great towns! i envy him!

message 29: by Ry (new)

Ry (downeyr) | 173 comments Tentatively, I will be throwing my hat into the ring for this one. Since the last time I committed to attending the Dork, I've learned that life is what happens when you're busy making other plans! So, in keeping with the John Lennon saying, I hope life will allow me to attend the 2010 Dorkapalooza! August will be great for me, as well. Maybe we could even design a "Light in August" group read for the month of August? It could be another entertaining line-drawing, made even more entertaining, considering it would be completely live and in person! Either way, I'm suddenly looking forward to August! :)

what's this east coasty thing you all are cooking up? je that bar we went to the last time doesn't seem to be around anymore. i keep looking for it, but it's not there.

you can probably count me in for the dork. of course it'll depend somewhat on the timing, but i'll do my best.

message 34: by Jonathan, the skipper (new)

Jonathan | 609 comments Mod
. . . wouldn't be the dork without you mama . . .and bring that poet!

message 35: by Dan, deadpan man (new)

Dan | 641 comments Mod
Dude, you need to book at Fort Worden again. I am thinking I will have just enough money to pull off the Dork this year. I was there was some sort of Library Conference/Convention the week you book so I could try to get the college to pick up the tab! But I am pretty sure there isn't anything going on in the late summer.

message 36: by Martyn (new)

Martyn | 299 comments yeah Ft. Worden was wonderful...and nice rooms, too. I will definitely be attending this year...I'm not even paying for the flights...which is great!
