Kira (kiraa18) | 274 comments Hi I was wondering if we can read a book for a category that has already been completed by another of our team member and would it add to our points or be considered void since the category had been read for once?

✨faith✨trust✨pixiedust✨ Dead Account; Not Coming Back (faithm99) No you can do tasks as many times as you want! :)

Awesome! Thank you Faith!

Amelia (whatameliareads) | 268 comments Does the 'book on your tbr over 4 years' have to have been marked on goodreads 4 years ago ish?

I only started using goodreads properly in 2020 so while I have bookshelves filled with things I bought years ago they aren't necessarily marked on goodreads as that old

That's fine—just tell me that's what's going on when you do your completion post so I don't accidentally disqualify it :)

If there's a love square, does it count as a love triangle? 🤔

laurel [the suspected bibliophile] (laurelthereader) @Brianna Raquel sure!

Amelia (whatameliareads) | 268 comments Hey, for the own voices disabled or neurodivergent category does the character have to have the same disability as the author for it to count?

Either the same or one that is very similar :)

It's a hard prompt.

Do you per chance have any suggestions for that prompt?

Try these lists:

I probably do -

What type of books do you typical read? (fantasy/romance etc)

message 115: by Laura ☾ (new)

Laura ☾ | 1102 comments @Laurel thanks for the lists! I actually have read a bunch of those but didn’t necessarily realise the authors themselves shared those neurodivergent traits!

@Amelia I’m pretty open to whatever!

Me too!

message 117: by Leslie (new)

Leslie Dauer-Creek | 320 comments There is also Jenny Lawson (who has several mental illnesses) that wasn’t mentioned on any of the lists. Her books are more like memoirs, but they are hysterically funny.

They are amazing!

Also, memoirs and autiobiographies totally count for all #ownvoices prompts :)

message 119: by Amelia (last edited May 27, 2022 02:37AM) (new)

Amelia (whatameliareads) | 268 comments I read more romance so these will mostly be that but:

Autism I strongly recommend anything by Helen Hoang or Take a Hint, Dani Brown

Fibromyalgia: Get a Life, Chloe Brown

non-fiction - The Lady's Handbook for Her Mysterious Illness

mental illness: It's Kind of a Funny Story - this is part memoir part fiction as the author is writing about his experiences but aged himself down to 15 as the main character

Wheelchair user: Knot My Type or anything by Evie Mitchell as she has Chrons disease

Deaf/hearing impaired: El Deafo (middle grade graphic novel)

I'll add some more later when I'm home and I can see my shelf

Kira (kiraa18) | 274 comments Hi! I had a doubt. I am reading a book with disabled MC written by a neurodivergent author. Would it count as #ownvoices?

laurel [the suspected bibliophile] (laurelthereader) Kira wrote: "Hi! I had a doubt. I am reading a book with disabled MC written by a neurodivergent author. Would it count as #ownvoices?"

What's the book?

He's a Brute by Chloe Liese !!

Hmm. Technically it's not ownvoices, but because it's a neurodivergent author writing with care about a disabled character and this prompt is so hard, I'll count it.

message 125: by Melanie (new)

Melanie | 167 comments Hi Laurel. I'd like to count The Last House on the Street by Diane Chamberlain for Pink Polo Shirts #1 -- Moon on the Cover. The cover art displays moonlight versus a traditional picture of a moon. Just checking to make sure this is acceptable. Let me know.

laurel [the suspected bibliophile] (laurelthereader) Melanie wrote: "Hi Laurel. I'd like to count The Last House on the Street by Diane Chamberlain for Pink Polo Shirts #1 -- Moon on the Cover. The cover art displays moonlight versus a traditional picture of a moon...."

Unfortunately it does need to actually represent something celestial. If there was the night sky with stars, it would work, but moonlight alone doesn't count.

message 127: by Amelia (new)

Amelia (whatameliareads) | 268 comments Is there a rule about poetry books? I have an poetry book that is disabled Ownvoices and was wondering about the length of it to count

message 128: by Melanie (new)

Melanie | 167 comments @Laurel It's okay. I can put it in the prompt for a love triangle. It's all good. I just wish I could use the moonlight prompt.

laurel [the suspected bibliophile] (laurelthereader) @amelia no hard and fast rule so long as they’re over 150 pages. I’ve had some people count them as half pages and others not. I’d say if you only read one poetry book count full pages, if you plan to read more then count as half pages.

message 130: by Kira (new)

Kira (kiraa18) | 274 comments Hi! Would a book set on an entirely different planet count as a book set in space?

laurel [the suspected bibliophile] (laurelthereader) @kira unfortunately no because it’s not in space

message 132: by jime (new)

jime | 32 comments Hi, would Maybe in Another Life count as a love triangle since two characters had an interest in her even though it was briefly?

laurel [the suspected bibliophile] (laurelthereader) jime wrote: "Hi, would Maybe in Another Life count as a love triangle since two characters had an interest in her even though it was briefly?"

Yes I'll count it

Jen K | 1547 comments Hello, should a play, The Merchant of Venice, be treated as graphic novel in regards to the number of pages or is it okay as is? Thanks!!!

laurel [the suspected bibliophile] (laurelthereader) @Jen K I’d treat plays like poems: if you’re reading one count it like a book, but if you plan to read more count as a graphic novel

Probably just the one. Thanks so much!

Lexus (lexcat1994) | 125 comments Can we read multiple books for one task? For example I already read a book for Army Pants 2 so I can I read another book that would qualify under this task?

laurel [the suspected bibliophile] (laurelthereader) @Lexus yes completing a task multiple times is fine
